HP Laserjet 1022 printer

The printing has got progressively fainter over the last dozen sheets. I've shaken and changed the toner cartridge but it makes no difference at all.

I found what might be the solution to this while searching for a problem for another printer series on HP's site. Go to the Printed Page Is Different Than What Appeared on Screen page and scroll down to "Missing graphics or text, or blank pages"

Oops. My bad. I was searching for two different solutions at once and published the wrong one in your thread. My apologies. I think this might be the correct solution. According to HP, the problem could be that the the print density adjustment is too light. Follow this link to see the possible solutions:

HP1022N laserjet printer there are black specs along the printed page. looks like toner smudges.

toner specs are usually caused by a bad cartridge. If it is a refill, it is possible that the waste toner bin was not emptied when cartridge was refilled. Try different cartridge as your first trouble shooting step.

My boss want to replace the black ink cartridge for one that prints color. Can this be done with the HP 12-a cartridges? HP Laser jet 1022

Unfortunately laser printers don't work this way. The laserjet 1022 was designed for black and white prints only. In order to do color printing with a laser printer you will need to purchase one that is designed to print in color. The laser printers work a bit differently than the inkjets - the laser printers have 4 toner cartridges, one each for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black, that work together to print a full color page. With the old inkjets you could just replace a black cartridge with a color one.

So, short answer: Sorry but no you can't make a laserjet 1022 print in color. :)

I would recommend looking at an entry level color laser printer from hp, such as the CP2025 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF25a/18972-18972-3328060-15077-236268-3673580.html) if you are looking into purchasing a color laserjet.

Hope this helps

There appears to be a light caste of toner covering the printed sheet. How do I fix this?

If this is what I think it is, we in the industry call it back-grounding. It is the result of the fatiguing of a component internal to the printer cartridge, HP Q2612A. Replacing the cartridge should fix the problem. Be sure to purchase a high quality remanufactured or OEM replacement to avoid this in the future.

Just changed the cartridge in our HP1320 Laserjet (genuine HP cart) but the print quality is now much fainter than normal. Still on ProRes1200 setting as before. Any ideas?

If your toner cartridge is not OEM (HP), this is the most common reason. I have personally seen 2 out of 3 remanufactured HP toner cartridges fail right out of their sealed boxes. Don't be fooled by lower costs, test prove most remanu'ed cart's don't give you page yield to justify their lower cost.

Poor quality since changing ink.

If you didn't have this problem with the last toner than more then likely the new one is deffective. It seems to be having a ghosting issues which happens when the dr blade inside the toner does not clean properly. You need to try another toner cartridge.

there could be two reasons. The transfer roller is off place or the fuser has given up.

Installed new toner. Printer prints well, except approx 1 inch of vertical line doesn't print about 1/2 inch from right margin. Have gently shaken cartridge, run a cleaning paper, reiserted cartridge.

Assuming none of your print area margin settings have been changed, it sounds like you may have a defective drum. You can try carefully cleaning the corona wire, a hair thin wire, with a dry cotton swab. Do not touch the drum! The drum is an integral part of the toner cartridge. Return it to the store as defective.

Have you refilled the toner cartridge or is it refill as when these toner cartridges are refilled they have a tendency to leak. I suggest to remove toner cartridge turn the machine off vacuum out the inside and replace the toner cartridge with a new original. Run 20-30 prints through to get rid of any other loose toner and then should be fine.

If printing doesn't improve then repeat process if still same problem suggest transfer roller to be changed.

Hope this helps
Thanks J
