Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have several video tapes that are currently unwatchable due to flashing or fluttering and also affecting the sound.I have established that it is not the video recorder. Someone told me that if you wind them forward, then back and thump the tape casing, it will cure it. Not successful.

I need a manual lock for older dvd/vhs players. Its too old to have the parental controls on it but I still want to keep certain dvd's/vhs tapes from being viewed.

Hi there,

There are video looks currently for sale
A company called 'Clippasafe' make a child proof video flap lock.
'Mothercare' also made video locks.
If you search on ebay UK for 'video lock' in all categories you will see a number of these currently up for auction or to buy.

Unfortunately DVD locks are another story, due to their nature the DVD tray retracts back into the drive with the tray front fitting flushly to the machine. The only way to solve this is to buy a DVD storage case which is lockable. Again if you search for 'lockable DVD storage case' into ebay then a number of these are currently up for auction or to buy. They are also available online from various sites and probably various high street stores.

Hope this helps,

James

We can not get picture on VHS tape in middle of recording. The unit flashes a-tr. If we hit the menu button we can hear the program recorded. How do we get our program back

A-TR is auto tracking, possibly due to older video cassettes or a faulty/dirty drum.
Run a wet head cleaner through the player and check the condition of the tapes being used. If the tapes are old they leave deposits on the playing/recording heads and you will persistantly have this problem.
If the problem persists, then I suspect the heads may be faulty, or may just need an adjustment.

Model abv441 Picture flutters when playing vcr tape

Remove the casing of the unit. You will see a head where the tape runs across. Keeping it powered up, with tape in....There are three screws around the base of the head. With a small phillips adjust the head by turning the screws one by one. If you adjust out too far, the screws will come out completely. Take your time when adjusting. You will notice the picture change with the turning of the screws. The sound will change also. It takes very little adjusting to get it right. Play around with it and it will work in no time...Good Luck

Panasonic DMR-E55 Won't Let me Record my own VHS

Hi

This is probably caused by an irregular magnetic encoding pattern being generated by the tape itself. If the DVD recorder does not fully recognise the code, it may incorrectly interpret it as copy protected. If there is any tape flutter or there are tape edits, these can contribute to the problem. In addition to this magnetic imprinting can occur on old tapes that have been stored for a number of years without being spooled. basically wrong bits of the tape get magnetised. You can sometimes hear an echo on old tape recordings caused by imprinting.

You could try the following:

1) If available, try using a different video machine to play back and record from.

2) Whatever video machine you use, put your tape in, fully fast forward and rewind a couple of times, then try your recording again. This is particularly important if you haven't used the tape for some time.

3) If it fails again, check to see if it always fails at the same point.

4) If it does, try winding forward a little and then try to resume recording.

5) If you can record it means that a short section of tape is giving a spurious code to your dvd recorder and confusing it.

6) Use a re-recordable dvdrw to make a master. You won't keep wasting discs if the recording stops. You will also be able to produce another dvd from your master and edit it if your recording ends up in a number of segments.

7) Always use the highest quality setting possible when producing a master.

8) If all else fails, if you have a friend with another dvd recorder, maybe try that.

Have fun....

VCR WILL NOT PLAY

The problem is the tape mechanism is malfuctioning. It trys eather to load or play a tape and a sensor inside tells the microprocessor to shut down this mechanism before damage is done to the tape. BUT sometimes a malfunction causes a damaged tape too. this unit has NO user serviseable parts inside itself, so its time to take this puppy into a repair shop to see if its worth the repair , Unless this units more then a few years old?? then its time to buy a shiny new unit. Good luck
