Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies

My lexmark 5400 series does not recognize that it is attached to my computer via the usb printer port. it was purchased 8 monthes ago. i installed the the disc. all was good untill 2 months ago. it went down during a print job. I replaced the usb cable. no change. i tryed to reload the soft ware but you cant if it doesnt recognize that it is connected. i am frustrated, andneed some help. I dont know if it is a problem with this particular model or notI made sure that my computer controls are set correctly. is it possible that the usb port went bad?

    I have found the problem with the printer. look through thr security files when problem started. check them and chuck them, if not vital. Reboot and open BIOS setrtings. check youre startup sequence and make sure that youre USB support is turned on.

Yesterday have the same problem with a x5490 lexmark printer which is also in warranty.
problem is simple: There is a small plate that is set Plug the USB, which was broken.
In one way or another it was jerky of cable.

Solution: is a single. Go with your printer to the warranty service. They will change that small plate, and everything will be Ok!

My computer is saying it is not connected to my Lexmark x2670 printer but I have everything connected. I need my printer! Help please.

What you will see The Continue button is gray (i.e. Continue), preventing further driver stallation. connect the Installation Cable; using the supplied installation cable, connect to any USB port on this computer. Back Quit Continue There are several possible reasons for an inactive Continue button. Try the following suggestions in the order provided to resolve this issue: Action
1 Make sure the printer is turned on:
2 Confirm a solid connection of the USB installation cable on both printer and computer. HINT: The USB port is identified by this symbol:
3 Keeping Step 2 in mind, disconnect the USB cable from both printer and computer and then reconnect the USB cable at both ends.
HINT: Listen for audio alerts or notification icons or balloons in the Windows notification area. For example, or or .
4 If your computer has multiple USB ports, try connecting the USB installation cable to a different USB port.
NOTE: Passive or self-powered USB hubs may cause a problem.

My Lexmark x5495 will not print. I get the message enable bidirectional communication. I am running XP operating system. What is the solution?


Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software. I need to know how to hook up the lexmark x5150 printer to my computer i have no manual.


With the computer running, plug in the printer connection wire into a USB port. Then turn on the printer. If you're lucky, the computer will tell you it just found new hardware and after a few minutes...2 or 3...will say it's ready to use. If not, it will tell you to install the CD that came with your printer. Then follow the screen prompts. The minimum required is a "driver". Much of the other software on the CD is for photo manipulation or other functions that you may or may not want to do so yo might ignore adding the extra software. Just read the screen for details to decide if you want to install it. Or if you have room on your drive, just install everything and not have to install anything in the future if your needs change.

The printer will not communicate with my computer


With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.

To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue

Lexmark all in one printer don't install on vista. is there a patch


You may want to see if the Printer is actually compatible with Windows Vista first before you try anything else.

If your Printer is Listed Below, then unfortunately it will not run on your system unless you format the machine and downgrade to Windows XP. (Or obviously you can wait until the device is supported, but to be honest that could be months, years).

The issue which u r facing is" Communication issue"
Make sure u have installed the lexmark printer software...or else download it from the lexmark website(lexmark.com)..choose the s\w for ur operation system( Xp or vista(32bit or 64bit))...
If s\w is installed...

Check the USB cable..try different port...
Clear all the docs in the printer folder...
Remove the power adaptor and replung..restart computer..
When u unplug and replung the usb cable doesn ur computer give a pop up "found New hardware" ?...If it doesnt..then (Check if USB printing support,USB composite device are present in the Device manager...i.e Right click on "my computer" ikon-go to PROPERTIES-Hardware-Device manager-Click the plus sing near and check in the list )
U can also try...
Uninstalling the s\w....disconnect the USB cable..reinstal the s\w and connect the cable when it prompts to...
