Question about Tomtom GO 910

1 Answer

Thanks for your response. I've bought the new house charger now its time to go to ebay for the the new car mount. Tomtom doesn't sell car mounts for the go 910 I guess you can say they are obsolete. I wanted to buy the new Fm Modulator mount. Do you know anything about them. Everyone seems to not have them anymore except I found a few on ebay. Take care.

HI,

Of course you can also look out for any faulty units that come with the car mount. Keep the mount then sell on the faulty TomTom. You can also look for them for other models , such as the 710 etc as the mounts are the same. I havnt had an FM unit through my hands so can't really comment other than I suppose it does what it says on the tin. Certainly a much bigger expence just to transmit sound to your car stereo . I suppose it's good for those who don't have an MP3 player fitted as it then gives them option of playing MP3's from the TomTom through the stereo but if it's just for that then a proper car MP3 player ( very cheap now ) can be had for almost the same price as a TomTom mount !

cheers , good luck

TomTom GO 910 won't turn on.

Two possibilities:
- if someone has used the wrong charger, and connected it to a 12V supply, the mainboard may be damaged. In that case, you need a replacement.
- the battery may be discharged. Even if the green light is on, it doesn't necessarily charge up. Try pushing it hard onto the mount for a few minutes, then see if it will turn on.

Lg viewty wont charge

Ok, there`s 3 things that could be wrong.

1.battery
2.charger
3 phone fault.

Your best bet is to go to where you bought thephone.
Tell them whats happened, ask to try a new battery,if that doesn`t work (using your charger), try with a different charger,if those two don`t work then it will be a phone fault.
If you have a warranty use it for an exchange in my opinion. Hope i`ve been of help.

T-mobile dash turns off at random times

had the same issue, its most likely the battery. i've read if you're not using the right charger designed specifically for the HTC Dash, then whatever charger you're using can overcharge and eventually kill your battery. I bought an all new battery off ebay for 12 bucks and ordered a new charger for another 10, solved my problem right away.

TomTom910 not charging

This is a common problem with the 910. Try putting an obstacle in the way of the wire to keep it on. Better still is to not use the home dock at all. Just plug the home charger in to the windscreen mount (device connected of course!) and charge it that way. You get a better charge and it will stay on.

Hi again ,

Well it looks like your'e an investigative type of guy and you digging around is getting to the bottom of your problems. I think you are very much on track and narrowing the possibilities and your last sentence brings out down to just 2 possibilities . I think logic is telling you that downloading voices won't cause a charging problem . I agree , voices can cause wierd things to happen software wise and I know this becuase I ahve seen it several times myself. Especially where it makes the screen look damaged. I had a tomtom one V2 here that ended up with a green only screen with black lines down it and that turned out to be a corrupted celebrity voice file. I never found out which voice it was but just deleted all the celebrity voices and hey presto the screen came back to normal.
Anyway , back to your problems. I see no logical connection between downloading voices and a charging issue . The battery charges by physical connection and regulation through electronic components and also becuase it charges the battery even whilst the TomTom is switched off then we can be confident that any software has no influence on battery charging. This tells us that out of the 2 possibilities you have narrowed it down to it must be a "contact" issue. Also because you wasn't aware of the release button you were actually disenguaging the TomTom from it's mount incorrectly. So, to sum up : .... we have .... 1/ cause ..... 2/ symptoms ...... 3/ cure ... = new car mount required.

Well done.

best regards

Thanks for the input.

hi, Check the photo below to see if your plastic lugs are in good condition . If they look OK then it is possible you have a bad contact to the pins or maybe even a bent pin. be careful though as the contacts are very easily damaged if you go prodding around.

My Tomtom 910 is having charging issues.

Hi Evan,

The rubber bungs often come out but it doesnt usually effect the charging although the rubber bung is there to help reduce vibration when used with a mount in a car. I have had many 910's here in the past with the bungs missing but never had any problem with them latching into the mount. I would think your problem is either some other plastic part is worn or broken. However , if you feel that the problem is the bung then I would go with your instinct but you might have to find something else to fit in the hole as parts are not readly available for TomToms unless you buy a whole unit thats faulty to use as parts / spares. Im'e sure something could be made to fit possibly part of an eraser or similar rubber part. You might also be able to use a small rubber cable grommet or similar.
As far as I know , it isnt possible to get a virus on to the TomTom as such but it is possible to get corrupted data on the hard drive ( or SD card with other models ) especially if you download things such as voices etc. I have had TomToms here were owner has downloaded comic voices and the files have caused very strange things to happen with the TomTom. I even had one where a voice file was making it look like the screen was damaged , so , your'e correct in thinking that way. In your case though , I doubt if the dowloaded voices have effected the charging , its more likely the poorly fitting mount thats casuing your problems.
If you manage to get the green light on ( this only shows power is going to the TomTom , it does NOT confirm charging ) then leave it for a few hourse before attempting to turn the TomTom on as that will ensure a resonable amount of charge especially if you battery is very flat.

Hope this helps . ( please rate the above reply if you think its helpful in any way )

Good Luck
