Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router
My NetGear Router WGR614 is not working. The Internet and Wireless lamps are not coming on and all the 1234 lamps are on even when unconnected to a cable. I tried pressing the reset button but it doesn't help.
There are several possible causes for that problem. The first is a bad power cable, insufficient power received by the router, firmware corruption on the router, or the router may have gone bad.
ø For bad power cable, you can try to use other power cable just make sure that the voltage of the one you are replacing and the replacement are exactly the same.
ø To insufficient power, you can try other power outlets
ø For firmware corruption, you can try the following steps:
1. Connect a computer to the numbered port of your router. For now, the connection would only be computer and router.
2. Check for a valid IP address. If you do not know how to, you can follow the steps on this link. The IP address should be in the range of 192.168.0.X (X as a number between 2 – 254). If not, hold the reset button of the router for 30 seconds and try again. If the same happens, set a static IP address on the computer within the router’s range (192.168.0.X (X as a number between 2 – 254)).
3. If you are able to get a valid IP address, try to check if you can access the router’s setup page. Launch an Internet browser and type in http://www.routerlogin.net on the address bar. If it asks for a User name and Password, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password or the password you have changed it to. If you were able to get in, you can use that page to upgrade the router’s firmware. Then once it has been successful, reset the router and reconfigure.
However, when all these steps have already been tried and the same happens. That would only mean that the router is already defective and you need to have it replaced.
