Most likely is a bad main board and in order to fix it you will need to replace it. The only other possiblity would be the lcd panel itself being bad but i doubt it, if this were bad the whole set would need to be replaced. I am having trouble finding you a part number for the main board. If i find one I will post it here. Anymore questions, just ask!

A educated guess here (model is a rather old Sony) this set will blank or shut the tubes off if loss of vertical or horizontal deflection---the slight line at top suggests vertical

What I have done to confirm this is either use a scope and check for deflection or turn blue screen up slowly(blue is less likely to burn the tube screen) and see if just a line.

The set blanks the tubes to prevent a line being burnt instantly at normal brightness (all concentrated into a line) on the face of the tube.

If you are technical and have a volt meter you may be able to locate online a free copy of the service manual to check voltages etc.

I have green arched =lines r=going through my screen How do I fix this?

If the lines are slanted up from left to right and spaced several inches apart, you are seeing the vertical retrace line. In that case, you may want to turn down the screen voltage on the green CRT. The instructions for making this adjustment are given in the service manual.

It should take just a small tweak to hide the retrace line. If adjusting the screen voltage won't do the job, check for a leaky or improperly biased CRT driver transistor, then compare the video waveforms with one of the other CRTs to make sure the voltage at the vertical blanking interval is correct.

In the worst case, there is a problem with the CRT. This is generally accompanied by occasional arcing (bright green flash or the set shuts down with an error code flashing on the power light).

Vertical jitters on picture - JVC AV48P776

What you are experiancing is loss of High voltage. The line is called a retrace line. It is usally caused by failure of the flyback circuit or aging of the TV tube. This is the single most common failure with CRT based display systems. The high voltage can be tweaked up, to accomidate for the age of the tube. Its a short term solution. Because of the high voltage nature of this circuit, suggest a professional repair.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.

Lines on top of screen

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, sounds like a capacitor at the vertical section about to fail, leaking or blistered. Additionally, have seen some of these models suffers from vertical fault due to a defective capacitor in the power supply section or cold solder.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

White dots/green lines

The problem could be in vertical blanking or video processor circuit. Also redish vertical lines may be from external RF or magnetic interference. Move set to new location away from appliances and speakers

resolder the vertical IC that is whats making the CRTs go blank. Its a safety issue where the CRTs blank when there is no vertical deflection. Just resolder the output IC that should cure your problem

Vertical lines

The red line in the crt is the sreen voltage is to high or bad tube.
A simple fix is if you take off the front panel there will be a black box be careful it is high voltage make sure you are a pro.
there will be six controls look for the one marked screen and is for red tube adjust very slightly counter clockwise.until red
line gos away. If that does not fix it its the red tube.

I hope this helps doctor video
