Question about Computers & Internet

9 Answers

I just bought a W3653 last week and I've 3-4 questions. First, I'm 70 years old, had open-heart surgery 20 years ago which pretty well zapped me of any short-term memory and I am basically computer illiterate. I can't remember two thongs at a time and I must write down everything. I need to know how to get my speakers working, do I have to subscribe to some type provider to play DVDs, does this machine have a word processor, and how do I print an e-mail or anything else???

Well I re-checked to make sure spkrs. were hooked-up right, i played around quit a while and installed adobe. I would like to know where I can locate some sort of pictures showing me what the icons on the back of the computer means. One has a box then tow spaces in front of it is two more...one on each side. Another looks like a Tulip or maybe an RCA plug. Is there a way to print screen at any given time or anyother doc. I might be reading?

Hi,

Your concerns:

  • "how to get my speakers working" - depending on what type of speakers were bundled with your eMachine W3653, the speakers may either be connected as shown below:
  • I just bought a W3653 - eba368e.jpg1b87a27.jpg
  • "subscribe to some type provider to play DVDs" not needed, a CyberLink® Power2Go™ is pre-installed;
  • "word processor" - the computer came pre-bundled with Microsoft Works® 9.0 and a 60-day complimentary trial period of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 both have word processors;
  • "how do I print an e-mail" - pressing on "Ctrl" and "P" keys normally would instruct the printer to print;
  • "pictures...icons on the back of the computer means" perhaps below image may help. A more comprehensive and detailed guide is available here.
e64c348.jpg
In some instances, the computer may be set to accept the speaker connection at the front
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

The tiny program that allows you to select Yahoo! Mail as the default email application for your PC is included as part of Yahoo! Toolbar version 7.2 and up for Internet Explorer (not Firefox).
If you don't have Yahoo! Toolbar v.7.2 or later for Internet Explorer installed, you’ll need to download it before proceeding with these instructions.
We’re sorry there’s not an official version for the Mac—yet.
Here’s how to set your PC to open Yahoo! Mail when you click an email link on a web page.

  1. From the “Start” pop-up menu in the lower left corner of your desktop, select “Settings” > “Control Panel”.
  2. In the Control Panel, select “Internet Options”. This opens the “Internet Properties” window.
  3. Click the “Programs” tab along the top.
  4. Click the “E-mail” pull-down menu, and select Yahoo! Mail.
  5. Click OK. Done!

Heres what you gonna do sir, if you do have a speaker and you want to connect it to the computer. it has a jack like left and right(diagram 2) or maybe like this single jack (diagram 1). on the back of your computer which it has an interface it of your audio(diagram 3). also at the back of your computer you may see a 3 jack slots. it consists the mic(left side), speaker (middle) and right side(right side) as showing on the diagram 3. all of the slots their are insertable with a jack like the one on the diagram 1. if your jack are ordinary and not like the diagram 1 then you should have to buy a adaptor to be able to insert it in the audio interface of your computer. one thing, be sure that youve already installed the audio driver camed with your motherboard to be able to have a sound wither you use a headphones or speakers. if you have a question just tell me. hope that helps you sir!

For this just press print screen key in ur key board.. which shuld be near ur scroll lock key...

After presssing the key, goto paint and press control V or paste by going to edit menu. Then the screen u required to print will be in the paint window..

Sir If u want to print this page,

Just goto File menu at the top of your Internet explorer window and then in it click on print and print.

If u could not find file menu,

You can see a printer button in your tool bar (i.e. below your address bar) click on that and a print dialog box opens.. in that click on print, You will get a print of this page fully.

Speakers : With that system, the drivers for the audio should already be installed for you. Just plug them into the right spot on the back and turn them on! :)

DVD's : Windows media player, as long as it is kept up to date, is more than sufficient for playing most of your DVD titles.

Word Processor : If it came with Microsoft Office (as I'm not sure if it does) then yes. If not, you can simply go to www.openoffice.org and download a really nice office quite that is both free and comparable to Microsoft Office. (Microsoft Word is the word processor for Microsoft Office)

Printing Emails and Such : Window Windows Mail, you can simply click the file menu and select the print option. The newer setup is really easy to use, and figuring out how to print just what you want is rather easy. This works for most applications. Also, many applications have a small icon or button that looks like a printer. Click these to print as well. :)

I hope this helps you out bud! I'm also glad to see that your not letting your memory problems keep you from newer technology. :)

Word processors such as Microsoft word do not come packaged with the computer but that basically depends on what you purchased so you have to find out.
Click start then programs If you see Microsoft Office then Microsoft Word and click on it. Try to use it if it works then you have a word processor.
As for the speakers have you already plugged it in your computer?
To play DVD's as long as you have a DVD ROm (Which comes standard nowadays) You can play DVD's and do not have to subscribe.
To print and email you must of course have a printer. But if the printer is setup you will see a printer icon on your email just click on that and it will print.

Computer Running Slow

Okay, you have the same issue I used to have. I inherited a laptop from my mother, and she was the second owner. It was loaded with programs I didn't need, and had a zillion files tucked away. If you can go into your control panel and access the add or remove programs, go through it and remove every stinkin' one of the optional programs you don't ever use, or can do without. Be sure you know what you are removing. Next --and this may sound silly, especially if you have done it already-- you need to go into your homepage in your internet connection and clear all browsing history from every browser you use. These can include google, msn, explorer, firefox, etc. I find if I don't clear my browser frequently, my computer is a real *******. The next obvious step would be to get into all my documents files and delete any old files, such as photos that you don't want, a huge music collection, etc. I have all of my music stored on my D drive, because it has the same memory as my C drive, but is nearly empty. You can store and easily access all your entertainment files in D if you have a large capacity. I would perform this test: from your start menu, open my computer and right click your c, or main hard drive and click on properties. This should give you info on how much storage space you have left on the disc. If it is less than 50 percent, you may need to delete some old trash. Do the same with your d drive. If all else fails, you can go into your recovery program and see if you can wipe the computer, but that is a last resort. I had to do this with mine so I could program it to recognize me as the computer administrator. I was tired of fighting with a zillion hidden files I couldn't get into, much less locate. Hope this will help.

Hello i ave hp compac dc7600 and i want upgrade for a best processor

Hey this PC is pretty old.

What is the current chipset in it?

I have checked the specs of the Pc and it looks like this the best processor you can put int it

Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache,
800 MHz FSB)

Not too bad but a little behind what is currently available with the i5 - i7 models.

Check what your full model number is and region then head to this page:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12253_div/12253_div.HTML#Configurable%20Components%20-%20Select%20Models%20%28localized%20by%20Regions%29

It will show you what can and cannot be put int the system.

I installed Windows 7 on the Dell Optiplex 330, normmally it 's working fine. from last 3 weeks ago, the computer struck and can not do anything.

Windows 7 needs at least 2gbs of memory to work fine and also a good processor.
Where i work we had to buy some memory pents to make this pcs work fine with Windows 7.
if you have a good processor like a Pentium or better you just need to buy memory
i recommend kingston memories, im pretty sure that if you put some memory it will restart to work
fine.

Hope to help you.

try to see if your carriers are loss by touching and trying to move them up down side to side...just don't do it hard so you wont end up braking them XD

if they are loss it would be easier for you to just buy a new printer...they are pretty cheap now days...

if its not the carrier it would be easier to figure out if you post your printers model number and name...

but again printers are pretty cheap...so would be a lot easier to get a new one.

if you need more help post here again.

Try another monitor on it to verify it is the video card that has gone bad. If it does not work with another monitor then that is the likely culprit.

This is a CRT monitor right? Do not open the case! There is high voltage stored in a capacitor somewhere in there and you could get zapped. You can buy good used monitors at Goodwill or a computer re-cycler for $20.00. If yours lasted five years you got your moneys worth. Did this monitor work correctly on other computers? If it did maybe you have a problem with your graphics card or something in the computer itself. Try a different monitor on your computer. If everything is OK with a different monitor then you know that your computer is good and that is not the problem.
