Replaced IC's and standby light flashes 4 times when powered up no screen

I had a convergence problem originally and tried to correct the issue by adjusting it. No good so I read that the IC's should be replaced. I bought the IC's and had them professionally installed. I hooked the board back in and now when the T.V. is plugged in the standby light is red. When the power button is pressed it makes a strange noise like a gargle. Sorry thats the only thing I could think of that it sounded like. The light flashes 4 times. Nothing on the screen or anything. I went back and checked all my connections and all is good. Any advise would be great before I take it to a shop. thanks for your time!

Hi there,

Thanks for your posting in FixYa.

I think the IC placed in it is not compatible. So you need to go for a repair shop to diagnose it thoroughly.

Dont forget to vote me. Have a Nice day.

Tv flashes red then shuts itself off after only on for 3 min

I have not repaired this particular model. But sometimes there is an IC they refer to as a standby IC. It may also be known as a controller IC. I call it the powerline regulator. And in one case the older Sony Projection TV had an audio output IC with a standby built into this IC. So,this advice is refering to a standby IC. And this IC may be in another form already mentioned. Please visit a Sony Tech. The work inside a projection TV is very complicated, you will need to see the specialist. Give them this note and go from here. Let me know how they handle the repair. Thanks for asking and good luck!

Will not turn on...not the "green flashing light" issue, something different. it will turn on for 3 seconds, then turn off. I have already replaced the 7 capacitors and 2 fuse on the DM. any other...

Could be convergence. Check the error code by pressing menu and device together for 5 sec and the timer light will flash a code. If it flashes 2 times pause and 2 times again it is the convergence IC stk393-110 and 2 fuses. Goodluck.

I have some distored blue color across the screen

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

The panasonic type 1 convergence repair kit should correct that issue. The kit contains the parts and CD with detailed instructions. You can get it at the following link listed under convergence repair kit.

Seeing kind of a double vision on tv don't have original remote

Your symptoms sounds like a damaged convergence IC’s.

There are two and sometimes three very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.

Most of the time you can just correct the convergence through the television menu. All that needs to be done is line up the blue and red to the green. If the colors do not move then there may be faulty components in the convergence circuit.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
