Question about HIP Cossacks: Back to War for Windows
LOL.. I'm glad I don't need to rely on a forum like this to help me out with computer problems. None of ya'll know what you're talking about. Running as administrator has nothing to do with drivers, where did you hear otherwise? Or did you literally just make it up. To the guy who said the 'only option' is to run the game in compatibility mode, no.Compatability mode has nothing to do with, and someone had already even posted a link to the patch that fixes it. I don't understand why people need to dribble a bunch of non-scense out of their brains in an effort to answer a question when you don't actually know the answer.
It's like if the battery died in your car, so you call roadside assistance and ask if they can give you a jump. They say no, the only way to fix it is to buy a new oil-pan. Does that sound moronic? That's how you sound.
This place is literally the worst place on the internet.
Even though It's far too late, the Windows 7 patch linked to in another reply worked for me after having the same problem. I'd recommend next time you just look it up on Google yourself, the internet is unfortunately crawling with derps who don't know what they're talking about.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Well, try this, we call this "compatibility" mode, most programs can be run on windows 7 with this trick.
I assume your Cossacks II Napoleonic Wars icon is on the Desktop,
Right-click the Icon (game's icon), select "Properties" and click "Compatibility" tab, select "Run this program in compatibility mode for" click the "Windows 95..." and select "Windows Xp (Service pack 2)", click "Apply" > "Ok" and try again.
If even after doing this, the game can't be played, then there's no option. The fact is that, this game is made to run on system with Windows xp and earlier version, but somehow if fortunate, it's possible, not will all software, some may work, some may not.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Right click on the program. Then navigate to compatibility, then select the compatibility operating system the game is supposed to be played under. Also, after you select xp sp3 or whatever you need go ahead and check the box that says "run as administrator." This will run the game under the proper drivers needed for that game to run properly.
Please rate if this helped :)

Windows Vista or Windows 7, will have problems running some older versions of applications, just because so much has changed under the hood from Windows XP days. Thankfully there is a compatibility mode that can be easily set per application.
To configure the compatibility mode for an application, just locate the installation directory and right click on the .exe, selecting Properties from the menu. THEN select your compatibility tab, You can choose to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode, or even all the way back to Windows 95 compatibility.
Probably the most useful setting to start off with would be to disable the visual themes and desktop composition, if you can't get things working. If you are trying to run a video game, you will often need to choose "Run this program as an administrator". You'll have to play around with it, but most likely you can get your application working this way. Also, you will be able to make a selection for windows VISTA which is backwards and forwards compatible with WINDOWS 7
