I'm going to step out on a limb for you on this.
I'm sure I will get flamed for this.

but listen, when ever the computer gets a virus, dammage may have already been done by that virus
even if the antivirus software has removed it.

in short , any other solutions provided will not even remotely help if the system has been infected.

Virus dammage must be controlled first !

My recommendation here is that you perform a complete system restore, and that does mean formatting the hard drive while your at it.

And thank you most kindly for selecting FixYa!

HIDDEN FILES DUE TO VIRUS ACTIVITY

Some virus make the contents of the drive hidden, thats why user can't see the files. This can be fixed and data would be available to you. However, there are number of steps involved.
It is suggested that go to FOLDER OPTIONS - and select 'SHOW HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS' and uncheck/ Deselect 'HIDE PROTECTED SYSTEM FILES'.
creativetech_53.jpg
It would show the hidden files/ folders, if the system not infected Otherwise, from the clean/ virus free system you can see your data and copy all the required files/data. Select the required files and right-click and change the properties of the file by un-checking the hidden attribute. Please note that you can not change the properties (hidden attribute of the files) if the files are marked as system files. To change the attribute of such folders you can download and use iReset. Just select the file or folder and its just as easy to drag and drop to reset all attributes and make the files visible again.(Note that you can reset one folder or file at a time)

Also, make sure that you have a good antivirus installed and its updated. Scan your system and clean it.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I start the internet and I get redirected

There is a malicious software application called the Google redirect virus. If your system is affected with this resident virus, you will be redirected most of the time. Each time you click on a favorite to reach a website, you get IE8 redirect problems - due to the Google redirect virus. I recommend a scan to know if your IE8 redirect problem is attributed to the Google redirect virus.
Not all antivirus applications can detect it. You may use Microsoft Security Essentials for regular use (it takes care of several specific types of spyware) or if you wish to go for a one time scan, you can use MS AV online scan. Once you have completed the scan and have found and removed the virus, I recommend you use the best maintenance software for Windows to avoid the problems in future.
IMPORTANT: Please clean your computer for temporary Internet files and cookies prior to running the online AV scan as they may interfere with the scan process.

If you can browse normally, it means the problem is some add-on. Start IE8 normally and disable all add-ons (Tools → Manage Add-ons). Enable them one by one to isolate the add-on that's creating the problem. You can disable or remove that add-on to prevent future IE redirects.
If you still get redirect problems, I recommend you uninstall the Internet Explorer 8 and download the "Internet Explorer Optimized for Google". This optimized version gives fewer troubles that include eliminating most IE8 redirect problems too.

Toshiba Laptop crashing

Hi vfcork4al67, did your notebook come with restore cd's or a windows cd? If yes load your restore cd or windows cd into the cdrom drive. Boot the notebook. The notebook should go to the cdrom & start to load the cd. Follow the on screen instructions if you booted to the restore cd & re-install the operating system. This will over write windows & repair windows files. If your not using a restore cd but do have a windows cd repeat the same instruction above as if it were the restore cd.
I'll post a link for your Toshiba Satellite a100 notebook but there are many A100's. You will need to find the correct notebook you have. Click the link below & find your notebook.
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/afin.to?stt1=Notebook%20PCs&stt2=Satellite

Once you find the corect A100 download the network card driver. You will need this to enable you to get online & download all the updated drivers for your notebook. I suggest you update windows asap. Many drivers & software installs need many window updated files in order to function correctly. Turn on windows firewall to help protect you while downloading & untill you install virus protection. Need some free virus protection. Click the link below & download & install AVG.

Have more question, feel free to ask.

What version of windows do you have? You might have a setting in your registry that is disabling changing desktop background. Is it a personal computer or a work computer?
