The TV was on, playing fine with no signs of trouble when it shut itself off and now won't turn back on when using the remote control or the 'on' button located on the television .
Was watching TV and when I went to turn down the volume the TV shut off. Now it won't turn on using the remote or the power button on the side of the TV.

unplug from electric, wait 30 seconds, plug back in. Check that you have power at the outlet (fuse/breaker shut off?) If it has a power word which plugs into the TV as well as the wall, be SURE it is tightly attached to BOTH. Make sure you aren't blocking the remote control receiver (you can turn most TVs on/off on the TV itself -- look for a power button). Be sure your remote has fresh batteries. Good luck!

Power Light Shuts Off
If the power shuts off during game play (even as much as 30 minutes after the system is turned on), then turns off and won't turn back on or the fan isn't working, the system needs repair.
Power Light Flashes
If the power light flashes once when power button is pressed, then turns off and won't turn back on, the system needs repair
First try turning the TV on from the Power button the set itself (assuming it has one).
If not, unplug the TV from the wall, wait a half hour, then plug it back in. It should come back on.
Also check that none of the buttons on the remote are stuck down, and that the batteries in the remote are OK. The toy might've stuck a repeating button down (like volume) which may have then drained the remote's batteries.
