Question about E-Machines emachines (emachinees) CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

E-machine is locked up

Entered the cd-rom disk that came with my new video camera. after entering the cd the program was working fine. I shut the computer off
and the next time I turned the computer on it booted up and a screen with
the e-machine logo showing a big E on the screen locked up. I have not been able to get by that screen with the E whenever I boot the computer.

Try to reboot the machine in safe mode. This is generally done with the F8 key. To do this...start computer, make sure F lock key light is on and hold down the F8 function key. It will ask whether you want to start in several different ways: Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, Normal, etc. Try Safe Mode. Go to Start>Control Panel>System. Under System Properties>Device Manager and look for Yellow exclamation points. Delete all of the exclamation points (make sure you have your original system disk). The video camera will probably be listed. Hope this helps.

When I insert a disk nothing happens, it makes really loud noises asif its about to take off. This carrys on and my computer does not recognise there has been a disk inserted.

The driver for your CD-ROM needs to be UPDATED. click start, then control panel, click performance and maintenance, then click system, click the hardware tab, then click DEVICE MANAGER.under the CD/DVD ROM DRIVES, your CD-ROM should be listed. It may have a "?" mark or "!" to show the driver is out of date. If so, then right click on the device, click the "driver" tab, and click update driver. If the driver is updated, but the CD-ROM is still not functioning, follow the same steps, however; when you right click the device and enter the properties, instead of entering driver, click the "PROPERTIES TAB: and UN-CHECK the box in the DIGITAL CD PLAYBACK. If that does not work, then search online for a driver that is compatable with your windows system,

I am getting the message "NTLDR is compressed, press control/alt/delete to restart". i dont have an XP CD to restore with. What should I do?

Hello my friend, you can download setup disk from Microsoft.
Start your computer, boot from cd(keep pressing F8 and select cd rom).
Select Run Microsoft Recovery Console , click Next , and then follow the onscreen instructions.
Press R to repair the Windows XP installation using Recovery Console.
Enter the appropriate number for the WINDOWS installation, for example, the WINDOWS installation could be listed as 3: C:WINDOWS or 3: D:WINDOWS .
If prompted, enter your Administrator password and press Enter . If there is no password, just press Enter .
At the prompt, if the WINDOWS installation you selected was C:WINDOWS, type:
cd c:
Or, if the WINDOWS installation you selected was D:WINDOWS, type:
cd d:
At the prompt, type:
attrib -c ntldr
and then press Enter .
At the prompt, type: exit
Press the Enter key and immediately remove all discs or diskettes from the computer to allow the computer to restart.
The error message should be resolved.
Good luck:)
