I found a Magellan Roadmate in the dumpster when I was dumping the trash off my truck. They were even so kind to leave the charging cord.I figured out that the charging cord wasn't connecting to the unit when plugged in.It took 20 minutes to figure out how to pop the case open(retainer tabs on all sides in addition to the screws).Once opened up,it took 5 minutes to repair the solder connections from the power socket to he circuit board.Works like new!
There are two way to unlock the GPS. One you either have to type the pin in which I am guessing you don't have. The other is to go to the location that the pin was set at. Garmin did this to prevent people that stole the GPS from being able to use it. Ask your friend where they typed the pin in. Drive there and it should unlock. Once there either remove the pin or reset it to one you will remember. If your friend does not know the pin or location then you have to take it to garmin and have them reset it. But you will need to receipt to prove you have possession of this product and that it is not stolen.

i fix these and many other magellan
gps daily so when considering
my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.
assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and
your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while
plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below
is actually a very common problem with these magellan power
ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean
always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then
the factory port.
if your able to replace that power port
yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that
sells them for help.
due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im
not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to
get further help.

you need more help or info
