Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive Portable USB 2.0 60GB 5400rpm 480Mbps USB 2.0 USB 2.0 External (STIUSB2560FT) Hard Drive

SimpleDrive Will not Run

I have a simpledrive poratable harddrive. I've only had it 2 months and it has worked fine up till a week ago. All the cords are in perfect shape. I have tried 3 different power outlets and 2 different computers and my hard-drive is not recognized. When I turn it on the blue light glows once and then it starts making clicking noises. I have tried all USB ports on both computers and it is still not being recognized. Any help would be appreciated as is I have all of my documents, music etc. on it.

Connect harddrive to computer then when you power up the computer press F8 key 5 to 6 times then enter in safe mode then if still letter will not assigned then follow below.First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Let me know if you need further assistance. Is it okay to use a 14-17 volt power cord for a Simpletech External Hard Drive?

The SimpleDrive requires a 12V/2A tip positive power supply. A 14-17V supply might work, but you run the risk of damaging your drive.

Isn't being read anymore

Please repair the master boot record(mbr) might be damage cause of viruses. If the harddrive detected in the CMOS there is no possible that can able to format the harddrive using windows utility such as XP Bootable CD or 98SE.

Hope this will be helpful to you.

Haskel, Have you tried a different USB wire? Constantly remove of the cord can wear down the contacts/something is on the contacts? Check that I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant. Good Luck, Tim
