Question about Kitchen Ranges

3 Answers

I bought a very old Magic Chef Gas stove at an auction. It has four burners in the center of the range top with two burner covers on hinges that hinge outwards to use the burners and inward to cover them. The burner drip pan is one piece for all four burners and is burned out in a couple of places just before it reaches the pilot fixture in the center between the four burners. This model stove has the broiler compartment on the left front and it pulls out in a 1/2 circle when opened. The oven is on the right. I cannot find a model number on the stove, but need it to search for the burned out drip pan. Can you help me identify the model or year of such a stove?

I just bought the stove this week at an estate auction. I believe the couple would have bought/used it in the late 40s or early 50s.

I believe the stove would have been bought/used around the last 40s - early 50s. It was from an estate auction & I bought it this week.

Close Robert, but the four burners are located in the center of the stovewith a 6" enamel section on both outside edges, which support the cover doors when they are open.

Magic chef gas range top burners will not stay light

This problem is almost always due to a defective gas valve. If you decide to replace the part yourself remember safety 1st, turn off the gas and disconnect power to the range.

My magic chef stove model#31100paw oven will not heat up but all four stove burners are working just fin.what is going on?

This oven and range work from two separate regulators and it sounds like the one for the oven has failed. Have it replaced and that should get you going again. Hope this helps. Good luck.

How do you light the oven? We turn the dial and

I take it the range is electric ignition because you say the top burners have a clicking(igniter) noise. If the top burners are electric ignition then the oven is also. The oven probably uses a hot surface igniter and that is why you do not hear any clicking. Turn the oven on and open the broiler compartment. You should see a bright glow from the hot surface igniter. If you do not see any glow there may be a grounding issue or the igniter could be bad. If you do see a glow but the burner does not come on in a few minutes then give the gas valve a tap with a wrench and see if the burner comes on. Shut it off and then back on several times. If the burner continues to light after this you may have fixed the problem. If it does not come on gas valve could be sticking or igniter is weak.

Replacement Parts For Vintage Magic Chef stove

You probably have a 1940's model of Magic Chef. Check for the model number under the lid of the cook top on the upper right hand side of the stove. It should have the model number and the serial number, too. You will need both. The Old Applicance Club run by Jack Santoro is the place to go along with a site called "Antique gas stoves"in Georgia. Good luck with the world of vintage stoves.
