Question about Nikon EM 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

Shutter fires when film advance lever is used.

The shutter fires when the film advance lever is cranked, mirror sometimes does not return. I get the beep...beep, but f-stop change has no effect. Sometimes there is about a two second delay (the mirror is up, no shutter) before shutter fires. Just started doing this, no warning Earl J.

The problem you describe is common with the EM. I have one myself sitting on the junk pile for the same reason. The body is made of plastic and the plastic around the advance lever is a week point. Your body, unfortunately is not repairable. But there is good news. Because of the low cost of a replacement EM on E-bay (under $30), you should consider keeping your lenses and buying a new body (the standard 50mm f1.8 EM is superbly sharp for a low end lens). Since the EM lenses are interchangeable with later models, you could consider a later model used body. Many are selling for fire sale prices.

I am having trouble loading the film into the camera(just been given this) I am not sure if the advance lever is working, or I am doing something wrong.

Make sure a fresh battery is installed so the shutter will fire. The advance lever move smoothly after the shutter is fired.

Hi, I was taking pictures with my camera and I turned the handle to get to the next picture and the button we press to open the shutter (capture the picture) I can push it but it wont click. Please tell me...

Sounds like the shutter has not fully cocked, which often happens when you get to the end of a film and the film advance won't move on a full frame. Try the film rewind crank(gently). If it is not able to turn either way, then you have used up a film and have to rewind it and remove it from the camera. You will then be able to advance the film wind lever to finish cocking the shutter and it will fire as normal.

Nikon F100 does not advance film to start of roll,

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

Pentax ME Super

Does the film advance lever lock in place when the lever is returned ? if not, the lock spring broke. This is a common weak point in the ME Super. the camera must be partially disassembled to be repaired. get a cost estimate first. there are no new parts for this model Pentax.

Cannot take picture, no film advance, new battery

The shutter could be stuck or the mirror could be stuck. (Guessing you have an SLR.)
The film advancing is normal; means it is cocked and ready to go but something is stuck.

Take off the lens and see if anything is keeping the mirrors/shutters from returning.

Film Advance Lever and Shutter Curtain

If the film advance lever is "flopping" back and forth, the problem is most likely a jammed advance mechanism inside. The shutter is cocked *mechanically* and released the same way--no battery power is needed. One old trick you could try to release things is to push the rewind button on the bottom of the camera.*sometimes* it will free up the mechanism enough to unjam.

Pentax ME Super Shutter and Rapid Wind Button...

anmolag,

it could be the rubber bumper next to the fresnel lens has become sticky. very gently ( after removing lens ) try to bring mirror down without forcing it. it should release easily.
if not, rotate the select knob off auto. open film door and check that the shutter is fully deployed, shutters should not be overlapping.
remove screws from bottom cover and remove cover, keep camera up side down so that re-wind button stays put. there is a locking lever under the take up spool ( gray ) . with a pin move lever toward film door and bring advance lever fully to the right , then let it go so it returns quickly.
the shutter should have fired. if not the camera will need to be repaired. get an estimate first as there are no new parts available.

Film Advance Will Not move

Hi,powerpe. The mirror release rod can be located in the bottom of the body once the plate has been removed.(there are three screws on the old k1000's) There is a gear train on the left side when viewed turned over. The mirror cockong rod is towards the rear and a little right of the main shaft. You might need to move a little silver pawl with a pin or micro driver then you can push the mirror **** in to release the reflex mirror.the mirror cocking rod is about 1/8" dia.Hope this helps

Film advance lever

Your camera is cocked but since the shutter is not working you cannot release it and hence your film advance mechanism does not work. ME-super will work without batteries in full manual mode so set your shutter to B and try to release it. If the shutter will not release in B mode then the shutter/mirror box will need servicing : rubber components in the mirror box mechanism have perished and need replacing. After that your camera will be fine for another couple of years.

Film advance lever

Yes this is fairly common with K 1000 and the Spotmatics : although the shutter is cocked and hence you cannot advance film you cannot release shutter because mirror box is not cocked. Remedy : remove bottom cover and locate mirror box lever which protrudes slightely and is movable up and down and is spring loaded. Move upwards until it licks in position ( moving up against spring tension ). Now release the shutter and camera should let you advance the film .
