Sony Vaio PCV-RX540

One day my desktop simply would not boot up. It would freeze during the start up. It won't even start in safe mode-it also freezes. Any hope besides using recovery disks and losing data?

Thanks, Coolguy, but I've tried the last known working configuration trick and it still freezes when booting. I've managed once to get into safe mode, but can't get anything done.

You mentioned that you could not login in the safe mode so try this remove the hard drive and using it as en external drive for another computer. Then open notepad and copy and paste below.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin

Then save this to the external drive as boot.ini , It should as if you want to replace you answer yes..then all you have to do is replace the drive back in original PC .
You will be able to login after performing the above operation .

This works for xp

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi,
I have following info for your Vaio problem...

Symptom:
The set will be hung up or rebooted after it has been resumed.
Solution:
Update the BIOS by using the following tool.
MODEL: PCV- RX540(UC)
BIOS/DMI Update tool (Ver.1004, 1005) P/No.: J-2507-185-7
BIOS Version: 1004

You need to contact Sony Service Center for updating as it requires tools and proper update file.
Thank you.

HI,

You can try restarting your laptop and then hitting F8 repeatedly and then choose LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION.If this doesn't fix the issue then you will have to go for a recovery. This is the only way to fix the issue.

IF you have the data in other drives like d,e,f or g then you will not loose them because your OS is installed on C drive. So you can go for a recovery. But if you have all the data in your C-drive then you will loose the data. You can first try a repair option.Insert and boot with your Xp disc and then choose the option to repair xp.

If you need anymore help let me know.

    Goodluck.

My Viao will bootup and then restart after a couple of minutes. This continues until I finally unplug the PC.

Boot loops when the op sys is corrupted.
Can you get into safe mode f8 key and see if it is stable if not reload the OpSys.

Sony Vaio PCV-RS710G wont start up

one of the files in the system32 directory in the windows folder is corrupt, the files in the system32 folder contains vital files for the boot procedure, try to start the machine in "safe mode" by pressing F8 after the sony boot screen, if it allows you into the operating system you will need to choose "system Restore" take the time back to at least a week before your problems started DO NOT CREATE A RESTORE POINT

Abnormal program termination error

Thats a USB driver error. You might have to reload it.

Before you do that though, try putting your computer into safe mode.

Turn the power off.

Wait 30 seconds. Turn the power on.

At the beginning of the booting process press and hold the f8 button. When the safe mode menu appears, move the up and down arrows to select safe mode and press enter.

Once windows is out of safe mode, restart the computer in the normal mode.
