Question about Dymo LabelWriter 400 Thermal Printer

Spits out multiple blank labels and reports a printing error

Dymo labeler has worked fine for a year and a half. I've tried to re load the current roll of labels and tried to get the label roll in as snug as possible, but the spool still seems to have a bit of wiggle room. The label loading instructions talk about notches on the spindle that should be inserted into the cardboard inner roll of the labels. I can't feel any connection on the left side, and I'm jamming the right side of the spindle down as hard as I can and don't feel there's any engagement with that either.

I can't tell if there's something wrong with the machine or with me. I've twiddled also with the platen release lever to release the many blank labels that get spit out.

I just fixed my coworker's Dymo, which had the same problem. I hope this helps: if you've ever fed it labels in the wrong direction (upside down), you may have jammed it and left a piece of a label glued to one or more of the sensors that let the labelmaker know it's finished printing a label.

1. Disconnect your labelmaker
2. Disconnect/remove any unused labels and set them aside.
3. Remove the face plate (with the DYMO LabelWriter 400 logo)
4. Lift the gray plastic lip (labels go under this) and make sure there are no pieces of paper/labels in there.
Once I removed a piece of an old label and put the LabelWriter back together it started working well again.

Dymo LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo - Until recently worked fine from both sides. Suddenly, no longer printing from left - prints half a label, then stops, then error message says Out of Paper, the blue light...

See if it still happens using a fresh label roll. From the Dymo 450 User Guide the common causes of poor print quality issues.

Poor print quality is most frequently caused by one of the following:
• An old roll of labels
• Labels made by a manufacturer other than DYMO
• Labels where the thermal coating has been compromised
• A dirty print head
First, make sure you are using DYMO-branded labels. Do not use third-party labels because the thermal coating on other labels has a different sensitivity than DYMO-branded labels. Also, the perforated holes between the labels made by other manufacturers are frequently not detectable by LabelWriter printers.
If the print quality becomes faint, small dots of white appear scattered through the printed characters, or light and dark patches of printing appear, you are probably using a faulty roll of labels. Try using a different roll from a fresh box. If the second roll prints correctly, the problem is with the first roll of labels.
Another possibility is that the LabelWriter print head needs cleaning. Every LabelWriter printer comes with a cleaning card. See "Caring for Your Printer" on page 17 for information about the
LabelWriter cleaning card.

My Dymo Labelwriter 450 turbo feeds out 4 labels each time I print one. The print setting is on one label. The first one prints and the next three are blank. If I try to use the reverse button the printer...

Multiple label feeding usually occurs because the sides of the spool holding the roll are not squeezed tightly together. Make sure there's no gap between the labels and the sides of the spool. If this doesn't help. take out the labels and blow a blast of air into the feed slot. There is a sensor inside the slot on the left that detects the hole in the labels, and maybe it is blocked.

My dymo label writer twin turbo stopped printing on left side!

There are a few common reasons this is problem can exist.

1.) the incorrect template is used when creating the label

2.) the labels are installed incorrectly - the labels must be loaded and pushed against the left side of the printer and lid closed when printing to ensure the labels don't "wander" out of the sensor's view.

3.) the label sensor is covered by some debris - sometimes a label jam can cause a piece of label to become stuck on the underside of the sensor thus blocking its view. 4.) the print head is covered by some debris - sometimes a label jam can cause a piece of label to become stuck on the underside of the sensor thus blocking its view.

5.) The labels are defective - if you have another roll of the same size, try it to see if it has the same issue. If not, make sure you purchase quality labels like Dymo name brand or Labelvalue brand Dymo labels.
6.) The printer is defective. Labelwriter 400s have a 2 year warranty, so you can contact Dymo customer support to determine if the printer is defective and return to the retailer you purchased it from.

Labelwriter 400 was working fine. Then put in a new roll and it stopped working. Every time i get a Print Error and it doesnt print at all. Unplugging the wires results in printing 1 label and spitting out...

Have you checked that the labels are suitable for this model. There is a code between each label that sets the printer up. If its sending the wrong code then the printing will be eratic or non existent

DYMO THINKS ITS OUT OF PAPER ....

New versions of the Labelwriter 400 (original and Turbo) do not take Generic Labels. It is an issue with the firmware Dymo have installed - it will only relabelwriter400.jpgad the genuine labels made by Dymo. currently there appears to be no work around to solve this isses.
The Dymo OEM labels have lines print on the back, if you use labels without these lines, the printer gives an "out of paper" error
The only printers in the Dymo Range that will take our generic labels are the Dymo Twin Turbo and the Dymo Duo (both the more expensive from the range).
Dymo have only made this change in the last 6-8 months, old 400's will work with cheaper generic labels

Printer keeps printing blanks...

We have found a reset that we use.
We unplug the printer and then we hold down the feed button and we keep holding down the feed button while we plug back in.
It goes through some sort of a reset and this sometimes works.

Labels Print Once Then Fail (3.5 X 1)

"The printer will print one label then either push out a half a blank label or several blank labels. At that point the labewriter thinks it's out of paper. I also noticed that the labels tend to slide toward the middle while exiting. After each print I have to pull the labels back in and realign them. Then the process repeats."
This is because you haven't squeezed both sides of the spool to the edges of the label. Without the sides to hold the label in place it is free to slide about on the spool and therefore slides about where the print head and label sensor are. The sensor is on the left, so if it slides towards the middle the sensor can't see the label and reports "out of labels".

See the diagram here for a clear picture of how to correctly load the labels to avoid this problem:
