Those are not good signs. The TV needs repair. I would unplug it and not turn it on again. If the TV is still fairly new say within five years or so, try to find a reputable repair shop. Sometimes the local Better Business Bureau may help or ask around.

GE #32GT660 won't turn on.

Your set is possessed! Just kidding. The answer to your question is in your last statement. If you smell something burning your set has experienced a voltage overload which caused a component to overheat and burn and that failed component has rendered your set non-operational.
Unfortunately, this is not an easy fix and will require a trip to the shop. Get an estimate before approving repair. In the new world of disposable electronics the cost of repair may exceed the value of the set.

35 inch Sony Trinitron, worked great, then went off w/o warning.

Most of the time the Horizontal circuit fails and by design the Power Supply will also fail.
The smell was one or more components burning
or over heating.
There is a good chance it will be a costly repair.
Hope this helps,

MAGNAVOX TV BURNING SMELL TV WENT POP AND WENT OFF

Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things.
I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.

No picture or sound

If you had a burning smell, well the board is toast. These sets are made to replace the entire board at one time. Before installing the replacement module, the picture tube should be checked. A defective picture tube ( such as a G1 short) may cause a failure in the power supply section.
