Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

Computer keeps crashing!

Hi! my computer has started acting crazy. first I needed a new AC adapter as mine was frayed. When I got it (off ebay, not a dell brand) it worked fine, but after a week I got a message AC adapter type cannot be determined. So I bought a new one from Dell thinking that would fix it. The new one worked for a few days, then did the same thing. Now sometimes when I move my computer with the adapter in I get the blue screen. I have had to restore my computer 3 times this month as it will tell me it can't read the hard drive at start up. Press F1 to retry.. nothing works. it will go into BIOS (?) so I put it to boot from CD and restore it when this happends. Then it works for a few weeks more. But still I keep getting the blue screen, and it keeps telling me it has dirty files, or can't read hard drive. Also the adapter error pops up every few SECONDS then won't for an hour or so, then 50xs in a few minutes. Please help!! My computer is only 3 years old!

I am able to work in it now with out being in safe mode. I restored it a few days ago, and even though it is still acting crazy, i am able to work on it. I just have to deal with the annoying "AC adapter type cannot be determined" error code every few seconds, and not move it too much or else I get the blue screen. I keep it on "on all the time" so that I don't have to restart and risk the "cannot read hard drive" or "hard drive failed" message. I am just looking for a more permanent solution than restoring it every few days.. kwim?

Your Harddisk need to go for Error checking and Defragmentation first.

    Step 1:

Click on start >> Programs >>Accessories >> System tools >> Defrag

Defrag your hard drive >> This may take some time.

This would take 2 or 3 hours but able to fix system errors.

    Step 2:

REPAIR Hard drive - THROUGH CHEKDISK command

1: Open "My Computer", RIGHT click on the C drive icon, choose "Properties".

2: When that loads, click on the "Tools" tab, then click on the "Check Now" button in the "Error Checking" section.

3: When that little window loads, place a CHECK in BOTH boxes, then click on "Start Now".

4: A message will pop up saying that Error Checking will run after you restart the computer, so......Restart the computer. Error Checking will run automatically after the restart and it locks you out from doing anything until it's finished. It takes a little time to perform the task but after it's finished, it will restart into Windows automatically.

Let me know after this steps and dont forget to Vote the solution.

NEW Battery not properly charging

Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

Hi, my laptop crashes when the ac adaptor is plugged in yet it will charge the battery fine when the laptop is shut down.

Problem description: The laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in. The laptop works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off.
Possible cause: 1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: First of all, test the power adapter. Make sure the adapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the output voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damage. Test your laptop with another known good power adapter.
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likely it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

Hi My hard drive crashed can it is old can it be

Most likely scenario is the drive is dead, but also the BIOS on your computer is old itself, I believe there are a few BIOS upgrades available for that model, might want to check with Dell support site. If you have access to another computer, there is a way to check your drive. Go to a computer retail store or on Ebay, but a EIDE/SATA to USB adapter. This will allow you to take a hard drive out of the case and attach this adpter to it and plug the usb side into another computer, laptop, doesn't matter...that computer will read the drive as an external hard drive....if the drive is indeed still viable. If it is, this would be a good time to save your files to the other computer for safe keeping until you can get your other system back on its feet.

Dell xps m1210 won't power up with new battery. Check notes.

If it is working fine with a fresh battery then it is not a motherboard problem. It is either a bad ac adapter jack on the motherboard or the actual ac adapter cord is not working. Try as they have replacement ac adapters for almost everything under the sun. Hope this helps.

Green Light turns off when plugged in to the computer.

hi bro what u need to do is ... understand when u plug in the ac adapter the light on the ac adapter goes off and whne u unhoook it it comes on .. right there is a possible static charge in the mobo bcoz of which the ac current is nt able to flo on thru the wires to the motherboard .. what u can do is turn ur laptop off completely unhook the ac adpter and take off the battery as well press the power button for 15 sec press and hold it do this xcersice .. hook every thing up and try to charge the battery again it should work .....second possible thing can be may be the connectors on the mobo can be bad on the pin in the prong on the ac adpter must be twisted ,,, so check for that as well ...if still no go then either problem with the onboard power connector on mother board or the whole mother board power aseembly IE replace the mobo ....

No power at all for my Dell Latitude D505

Sounds Like From Your Description That You Need Your DC Jack Repaired/Replaced..

THe DC Jack Is the Port where Your AC Adapter Plug Plugs into on the laptop.... THis can be proprietary or non proprietary.... But Either way, the Old Faulty Jack Needs To Be Desoldered and Removed, THe Board Cleaned and a New DC Jack Soldered On.. You Will Then Be able To Power On Laptop With AC Charger and Will again Be Able To CHarge The Battery..

Toshiba Satellite AC Adapter?

You can use an adapter with a lower or the same voltage, but not higher voltage. Also it should have similar amperes. Also it needs the same polarity. That's the +/- indicator. This page has a positive polarity symbol:

There's no need to pay ridiculous amounts of money for an exact brand name adapter.

Altec doesn't keep parts for old systems (2001 for the AVS 300)
I found this post online at CNET:

"Called the customer service for new AC adapter that I lost in moving. Replied, that they don't keep any parts for older model, or can not even suggest where I would find it."

I'm not sure what you mean by an "installer". If you meant the adapter, I'm afraid eBay may be the only way to get another. Please clarify.
