Question about Lexmark X8350 All-In-One InkJet Printer

No Scanner Communication

Hi, I am having the worst time with my Lexmark X8350 All-In-One printer. All features work except the scanner feature. When I press the "scan" button on the printer, the LED screen shows it is attempting to scan applications from the computer. The screen turns red and next message indicates applications cannot be downloaded and defaults will be used. When I use the Lexmark Productivity Suite, click on scan, I get the All-in-One Center, click scan then it indicates "scan unsuccessful". When I click on maintain/troubleshoot, printer status indicates "cannot communicate".

I have followed all troubleshooting tips and instructions, including ones from the Lexmark Technicians: (1) making sure the unit is turned on, (2) USB cables are connected (even purchased new USB cables), (3) printed test pages from my computer, (4) have faxed multiple documents, (5) made multiple copies, (6) uninstalled and reinstalled software from CD (several times), (7) downloaded & installed updated driver from Lexmark website.

My OS is Windows 2000/SP4, Intel Pentium 1.60 gHz, 261,616kb ram.

I would appreciate any help.

    Hi Ellin, I followed your instruction to look at the device manager list but did not find anything marked in yellow or with an exclamation or question mark.

    I did open the plus sign on the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, double-clicked on USB Printing Support which shows the properties, and it appears that the printer drivers for the Lexmark are not being used, it shows "Driver Provider: Microsoft, Version: 5.0.2183.1, and the Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows 2000 Publisher".

    I am not a techie and may be way off base here, but I believe this should show the Lexmark info rather than Microsoft as this is the only USB printer being used.

Please can you do the folowing and let me know:
Go to start >> run >> type in

devmgmt.msc

click on ok.

On the devise manager window click on

On the devise manager window click on the + sign before display adaptor ...check if there is any

yellow exclamation or question mark ...right click update driver

Let me know if there is any Flag in the Device manger entries.

    Have you check the other function working properly right now?

    Let me know is light/bulb glows on when you go for scanning.

I had the exact same problem. In device manager, I went to Imaging Devices and found Lexmark 8300 Series. I did a quick driver update, and it now works. If you don't see Lexmark under Imaging devices, there must be a more fundamental problem.

My scanner button is not working


hi my name is scott, what works for me? i shutdown my computer then mthe scanner works sometime that happens on printing, if your scanner is not scanning, but telling to re-aline the lines in scanning, just shutdown the computer.

On my X8350 scanner/printer, I can't figure out how to scan to a file and I can't find my manual.

Lexmark x3470 scanner feature won't work


Have you installed the scanner drivers? These are different than the print driver. You can find all of the drivers @ www.lexmark.com

I receive a cannot connect to pc when I press the button to scan. What is causing this error?


Hi


Sounds like your scanner is not longer connected to your PC- have you checked that the scanner is plugged into the PC. They can move an get dislogged

also check that the PC is still registering the scanner by

  1. Close all applications.
  2. Open the all-in-one product Toolbox, an icon on the desktop, or in the program group for the product.
  3. Select the Services tab.
  4. Select Test Product Communication.
  5. When complete, and the test passes, open the application you want to scan into, and select the Scan option to verify the fix. For a list of the applications that support this feature, see the document "HP ScanPicture Utility Overview and List of Supported Applications."
  6. If this does not work, uninstall and reinstall the software. Consult the User's Guide for assistance.
When communication is lost to the product (for example, the power was turned off and on), some features are lost. Running the communication test re-establishes communication between the computer and the product. Regards Liz

Scanner Question


I had the same problem so i unplugged my cable and usb cord and uninstalled the program for lexmark. and i put in the cd to install and followed the directions as if i was installing it for the fist time and viola it worked. Good luck

Lexmark 8350 won't communicate with computer


hi.

maybe the usb cable went completely, you can try to replace it with another, also Ive heard lexmark power supplies can go bad without notice, can you copy standalone with it? you should. if not then check power output with a multimeter. Is your new dell running on vista? you may have to download a driver specific for vista and lexmark from lexmark website NOT the XP driver the VISTA driver, I had to do that with mine. just a couple ideas. good luck

Scanner won't scan


Right Click on My Computer/Computer if Vista........ Click on Properties then click on Hardware click on Device Manager...... On that list u will see the Printer Name with an exclamation Mark........ Right Click on that click on update Drivers...... Insert the CD to the drive....... Select Browse My Computer for Driver software..... Click on Browse and then Double Click on Computer go to Lexmark X*****.......... Double click on Drivers and then click on scan and then click ok........ Now click next it will say the hardware is ready to use then u can just click on finish and scan..... Thanku
