Since this set is no longer under warranty, open it up and reseat all of the connectors and cables. The signal levels inside this set are extremely small and any poor connection can cause noise that can show up this way. Tink of hte plasma as an X-Y plane. You have a signal problem for 2 columns on the Y plane at that location. This could be a component problem as well, but that is unlikely. Try to reseat everything and update this. Please note that the pibbon cables from the plasma panel to the PC boards are extremely fragile. Be careful not to tear any of them as that would require you to replace the entire panel.

Please keep us posted.

Vertical bar failure:
Check all connectors.
Check peripheral circuit and connecting of the XR and XL boards.

These boards are located under the video/main board and they are connected to the main digital controller board and from the XR and XL to the screen.

Changed the capacitors C280, C302, C320, C323 - 100UF 35 VOLTS. Bought em at Radio Shack $5. Took about 2 hours cause I'm slow. Capacitors are in a group on the board with all the AV connections.

Try this USING THE REMOTE. 1-PRESS BRIGHTNESS 2-PRESS THE FREEZE KEY 3-PRESS THE MENU KEY 4-PRESS ENTER THIS WILL RESET EVERYTHING.hope it works You could have a burn-in from the speakers mounted too close to the set or games being played on the screen for a plasma.
. , disconnect everything from the set except for the power cord, turn the set on and see if the lines are still present. If they are not, the problem may be something external to the set

It would go off when tapping,yes it is a symptom of loose or cold solder,joint of the parts.You must reworks or resolder the solder joint in vertical section and check also the capacitor there for firm solder...

Hope this may help you;

By thin line I assume its one pixel in width. A single pixel wide line is an indicator of a defective panel.

Black Vertical Lines in screen

All I can tell you is that you maybe have left your T.V. on a channel that didn't move for so long, or maybe someone else did and it burnt the screen. Plasma's run off of plasma gas to create the great picture and they collect on the screen and stick. What you need to do is go to your menu and look for "screen burn protection" and put it on white and let it sit for 20 minutes. All of one color such as white doesn't harm your T.V. The only way anything burns is like a bright white line in front of a black background.

Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
