Question about Xerox Phaser 7700 Laser Printer

Phaser 7700 with faded/blotchy print in one color on edges

I have a Phaser 7700.  The color Cyan is faded/blotchy on either edge of the paper (1-2 inches), while being solid in the middle.  Swapping the print cartrigde and using the laser cleaner wand has not resolved the issue.

Thank you for the quick reply.  I have posted a scan of the print sample.

Do you think that is still the problem?  Just like to be sure, it's a 2 hour drive to this printer, so I want to fix it in one visit.

Replacing the cyan developer resolved my issue. I replaced both the developer housing and the developer powder (not really a choice if replacing the housing).

After bringing the old developer housing back to the office, I inspected it. Although not empty, it did seem to have much less developer in it then then new one I filled.

I would be curios if only replacing the developer powder would have worked.

I may not leave the pictures up for long, so a better description of the problem would be to describe it as painting with a roller. The edges looked like the roller was nearly out of paint (blotchy) while the center was fairly solid.

You need a cyan developer housing.

I seriously doubt just replacing the developer would have worked. Those housings rarely lose developer if they are good. What normally happens is this. Inside that housing is what is called a metering blade. It creates the proper "brush" or developer thickness on the housing magnetic roller. When that blade wears, to much developer is placed on the roller and it slowly spritzes out of the housing and mixes in the print or leaks into the machine.

I have frustraited myself in just replacing the developer then having to do all the work of taking out the housing again to replace it.

Printer is printing yellow instead of red and colour is fade

The magenta has run out (red).
Replace the HP 22 tri-color cartridge.
It probably has yellow and cyan (blue) left in it, and the black is most likely working as well, but if any of the 3 colors in the tricolor cartridge run out, the whole cartridge must be replaced.
For instance, if I printed my vacation photos and there was a lot of water and blue sky in all of them, the cyan might run out long before the cartridge life expectancy.
Also, don't forget that cartridges are rated in pages printed at 5% coverage.
Since a photo is about 25% of a full page, a photo printed at full bleed (edge to edge) will only yield 32 4 X 6 inch photos from a cartridge rated at 160 pages (5X expected coverage = 1/5 the prints)

I have a Xerox Phaser 8400 with image problems. After power up it prints a Startup Page - That page is black text which faded and slightly distorted in some areas and in areas that are in Color only...

What you are describing is a bad print head. You can try running the eliminate light stripes several times, and jet substitution, but most likely the print head will have to be replaced to remedy your problem.
You can try googling. Phaser printer print heads or phaser printheads.
There seems to be a secondary market appearing for those print heads. I can tell you from Xerox, if you have no maintenance agreement, they cost $750 per print head.
Honestly, having worked on about every type of color printer known to man, the new solid ink phaser printers, produce a dry ink image of 2400 x 2400 dpi with ink particles that align end to end. The resolution of those printers are remarkable and can be purchased for less than the price of one of those new print heads.
Now for reliable, albeit somewhat not as sharp a color image, but still exceptional, you really can not beat an HP.
The ink stick technology really no longer has the color vividness advantage it initially had. The inks that align end to end, have ended that advantage and are sure a lot cheaper to operate per page.

Xerox phaser 7700 having problems printing transparencies and accumulator belt problems

Hi xander4265:
I
Streaks in direction of paper travel
There are dark lines running along
the page in the direction of paper
travel from the leading edge to the
trailing edge (B-size print shown).
The printer displays no error code.
Note A-size prints are processed
through the printer with the short
edge of the print parallel to the
direction of the paper path --
making horizontal print artifacts
parallel to the shot edge of the
print.
B-size prints are processed
through the printer with the long
edge of the print parallel to the
paper path -- making horizontal
artifacts parallel to the long axis
of the print.
1. Check the end of life for each of
the consumables by printing the
supplies usage page. From the front panel’s Printable Pages Menu, select
Print Supplies Page.
2. Run the solid fill test pages; From the front panel’s Printable Pages Menu,
select Service Pages, then select Print Solid Fill Pages. If the missing bands
only occur in a single primary color, replace the print cartridge of the affected
color.
3. Swap print cartridges and run another test print.
Note Under some circumstances, streaking may occur in the margin of
SRA3-size paper. This is due to the edges of the paper extending
beyond the end of the imaging components. print-quality in the
margins of SRA3 paper is not guaranteed.
4. Inspect the Accumulator Belt cleaner; replace the cleaner, if necessary.
5. Run the Remove Print Smears routine. From the front panel’s Support Menu,
select Improve Print-Quality?, then select Remove Print Smears.
6. Replace the Developer Housing Assembly (RRP 27, on page 7-171).
7. Remove the print cartridge and (with a flashlight) check for debris along the
edge of the developer housing.

hope that this will help you.
