Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

Vistron 32 i have a vistron 32" and the problem is after about 15 minutes of the television being switched on, the left half of the screen turns a tint of blue/green and stays like that. if i turn the television off and back on again, the screen returns to normal but not for long. i cant find a contact address for the company i bought it from and even though i bought it through Ebuyer, they are not much help. looks like i have got stung. however, the television still does not work and i wonder if anyone had any ideas as to what is wrong with it and whether imbest either slinging it in the bin or getting it repaired?

I hope this is as simple as making sure there are no speakers or other devices with magnets or tranformers in them next to the TV. When the TV is first turned on there is a demagnetizing coil (degause coil) that comes on and demagnetises the picture tube. If there is a magnet by the TV it will cause the problem you are seeing.

My Sansui 32 Inch LCD screen shuts off, after a minute. The power remains on - the screen just switches off.

This may not work but i had a similar problem. My 32inch sansui LCD TV would switch off after about 10-20 minutes. I had to unplug it to get it going again. So i decided to open it as the warranty was long gone anyway. Very easy to open the back. I checked to see if anything was "swollen" as some sights suggested, but found nothing burnt , blown or swollen. Then i thought about heat? So i left in on without putting the metal backing plate back. It worked! when i put the plate back.....20 minutes and it shut down. So i just left the metal backing plate off! And no its not dangerous as the sansui has a protective plastic backing, that covers the metal one, that is better ventilated and protects the bits and pieces. Its been a week now and its fine.

Yellow tint on right side of screen sony wega kdf-wf655

Tube got magnetised.
Re orient the TV in a different direction entirely opposite. Switch on TV, Switch Off. wait for 30 minutes. Again Switch on. Repeat at this interval. The auto de-gausing circuit will de-magnetise it.

Otherwise you have to degause it externally. Contact service center.
