Question about Texas Instruments TI-89 Calculator

1 Answer

"Adress Error" I've had my TI-89 caculator for a while now and never had any problems with it. Starting this year of college, after the second week, the only screen that will come up is the main screen with the equations I've done in the past, with the last equation highlighted, and across the entirety of the top, a black bar that reads Address Error has appeared. I can't turn the calculator off or on, except by removing the batteries, and as far as I can tell, the only button it still registers is the "2nd" button, and the only thing that seems to do is make the "2nd" function activate and deactivate at the bottom left of the screen. Is there any way I can fix this?

I turned on my TI 89 calculator to take an online college test that is due by midnight, and my screen is completely black!..HELP

your contrast might be up to much.
try this:

hit the diamond key and then the minus key. this shoud decrease the contrast. keep reapeating these same steps until your home screen is visible. hitting the diamond key, then the plus key turns up the contrast.

Ti 89 detected but couldn't get status

Hello,
Here is what the FAQ and Knowledge Base area of the TI site has to say about the problem you are having. Hope it helps.

How do I correct the error message "TI-83 Plus or TI-89 detected, but could not get status" using the TI Connect software for Windows®?

If using a TI-89 calculator:
• Connect the TI Connectivity cable to the TI-89 calculator and the computer.
• Do not start the TI Connect software.
• Download the TI-89 v2.09 OS onto the PC's desktop.
**Force the TI-89 into the "Boot screen" (see instructions below)**

• Follow the on-screen directions to install OS version 2.09.
The download should begin.
**Steps for Boot Screen:**
• Take one AAA battery out, press and hold down the [APPS] key while reinserting the battery to force device into the Boot Code screen.
• "Press I to install..." will appear.
Once the OS has completed installation, the TI Connect software will be able to detect the TI-89.

Hello,
After the change of batteries, the screen reverted to default contrast. You should try to darken the screen.
Press and hold the [Diamond] key and tap the [+] key. Keep at it until screen is dark enough.
Hope it helps.

Ti 89 Titanium Battery use

I have a regular TI-89 (HW2)...have had it for 6 or 7 years. Suddenly it's doing the same thing. I have to put new batteries in it every week or so. I even replaced the backup Li-Ion battery. I'm getting really tired of buying new batteries but don't want to go shell out 100+ for a new one.

Anyone have anything on this? I'm having trouble finding much on this...

My TI-89 Dies out fast

If you download games and some third party software can be running all the time draining your batteries. Some of the APPS with Ti 84 will do the same thing. I'd try and find the problem software and delete it.

Dec to hex conversion

Not sure if TI-89 mode keys are the same, but here's the solution for that calculator:
1. Hit the mode key
2. Hit F3 to get tot Exact/Approx (might be different for 89T).
3. Set it to Exact.
4. Take a look at T-89 manual pages 327, 328, 329.
Nice of TI to NOT include that in the manual, huh?
