Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My Ford escort 1997 , the heater does not seem to be working as it should. It heats up but there is only a slight breeze (on the fan position) and only when the car is moving. Can you tell me what has happened?

Sounds like your blower unit isn't operating. Regardless of the temp setting (hot or cold) when you switch on the blower, it should move air. If that isn't happening, check your fuse box and make sure the fan/blower fuse is ok. If that is OK, then you either have a bad blower or wiring to it may be damaged. For your sake, I am hoping it is just a fuse because accessing the blower in small cars like yours is not all that easy.. Good luck !

Your friend is right. To answer your other question these are two totally seperate fans but that does not mean that one fans fuse or relay did not affect the other. You should check your fuses and which ones, if any, are blown. It is likely that during your radio installation a bare contact touched something and blew the fuse(s). If the fuse is blown and, when you replace it and work your heater fan, it blows again then chances are your radio may have cut a wire upon sliding it in. Reply back to this post and let me know.

Where is the cooling fan relay located on a 1997 ford escort lx. Replaced the fan and it worked for a few minutes then the car ran hot and the fan would no longer work.

This car has a relay module that contains a few relays internally and cant be serviced the relay box must be replaced, the relay box module that contains the fan and ac compressor and fuelpump relays is located under the air filter box, remove the filter box and you will see the relay module bolted there. hope this helps.

97 Ford Escort- no heat/ac/defrost or vent fan. Nothing will turn on. Checked all the fuses including the ones under the hood. Worked perfect one day then nothing the next. What could be the problem and...

OK the HVAC system has several components that make it work.
The actual heat is the hot coolany from your engine that flows though a heater core.
The blower fan operates on 12 volts, and runs through a resistor to apply your fan speeds.
The selector to run heat, defrost, ect. runs off of the vehicles engine vacuum, and opens and closes diverter doors.
The A/C uses a pump at the engine, a condersor coil and several switches.
I would look to the HVAC switch controler. Check for voltage there.
Please let me know.

Make sure the cooling fans are working when the engine reaches above normal temp,if they are not ,turn the ac on,and see if the cooling fans come on,if so,replace the coolant temp sensor,if it has a clutch fan, then replace it,for it is not staying engaged ,and is not turning fast enough to cool the radiator.

Heater not working

I would check if your vent to the outside is open. If it is I would check the vacum hose that controls the vent to open and close.
