The standby light should flash in a repeating count. That count will indicate the circuit in which a problem has been detected forcing a shutdown. Can you post the count here please?

Thanks,
Dan

Green flashes then tv turns off

or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp.
the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.

Well, those are really called CRT tubes and are way more expensive than your average bulb. I would not recommend fiixing a 7 or 8 year old (is that right?) projection TV with bad CRTs

ITS PROBABLY THE RED PICTURE TUB (CRT). IT LOOKS EASY TO INSTALL, BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SCREEN ONCE IT IS INSTALLED. THE PART IS $3OO. TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT FOR $150 OR LESS. HERE IS A WEBSITE TO HELP YOU MAKE ADJUSTMENT IN THE FUTURE ON YOU OWN.
