Print head failures HP 1050c

I have an HP 1050c that has went through 3 black print heads in 2 weeks they were all first quality HP parts. When replacing the printhead it appears to fix the problem for a few days then it alarms out that the black print head needs replaced. Any help would be appreciated.

we ordered and installed the tube system, it appeared to have worked for a few days with a new print head then it killed the print head again. $400 tube system and $100 print head shot. Any other suggestions?

  • Beach Bubby Oct 21, 2008

The contacts were cleaned throughly in the beginning and then again when I installed the tube system. Someone mentioned seeing an error #21 but I do not recall seeing it. I do not know how to put the machine in service mode or how to run service tests.

  • Beach Bubby Oct 22, 2008

I ran each of these tests and they all passed, while I was there I tested the ink pressure as well and it passed. The drop test hole had a large build up of ink that stuck to my eraser when I pulled it out.

I have attempted to print out the report. The black started printing ok but by the time it got to the info on the black print head it is unreadable. It says its ok and that it has 2 hours service. I have replaced the print head cleaners every time. When i put the ink tube system in i replaced all 4 print heads and print head cleaners. It fails calibration and says to replace the black print head.

The tube system has an air leak causing a dryfire situation. air + printheads = damaged printheads. most users replace the black printhead more often than the colors. the seal where the printhead feed pin fits into the carriage is the end of the tube system. the hole in the seal becomes to large and doesn't properly seal the air out. order the tube system. complete and concise instructions are included in the box for tube replacement. this is considered an end user replaceable part. good luck! please rate this!

    1. have you thoroughly cleaned the flex ( copper colored ) contacts in the carriage?

    2. Is the machine making any strange noises or giving any strange error codes? 3. do you know how to put the machine in service mode and run the service tests?

  • steve shroder Oct 22, 2008

to run service tests, power on the machine holding the color button down until the display reads initializing. to put the machine in service mode from a normal ready screen push the down button until you are on the printer icon. hit enter then scroll to utilities then hit enter then push the up and enter buttons simultaneously. 1. if in service mode run the service station calibration.2. if in service tests, run the drop detector test. when it asks you to block then stick a pencil eraser in the hole to the right directly inside the right cover. the hole is rectangular shaped approximately 1.25 inches x .33 inch. if the drop detector test fails then it must be replaced. if it passes then perform the electronics test. this test will tell you if you have a bad carriage or electronics module. let me know what happens.

  • steve shroder Oct 22, 2008

print a service print by going to the printer icon, hit enter, then go to utilities,

hit enter, then test prints, hit enter, then service print. look for error codes and printhead info. did you or did you not perform the service station calibration? have you been replacing the printhead cleaners everytime you replaced the printheads? this is brainstorming, bear with me. I always figure them out.

unfortunately it sounds as though the carriage pca (board) is and/or has died. this means the carriage must be replaced. while i was at it, i would replace the belt if if has not been replaced in a couple years. the logic is that the machine will be torn down to the same point whether you are replacing the carriage or the belt, so you might as well knock it out while you're there. If you need instructions on carriage and/or belt replacement, please post and i will lay it out for you. good luck!

Manually try to pull out service station(where print head cleaners located)., feeling very hard?.. cleaning and lubrication required.. Remove right cover., cheat the door sensor., switch on the printer & check for the where is the abstraction?.. If found any paper particles, remove & try.. Still problem persists, service station required over haul & lubrication.. But only professionals can perform this activity., ..
Note: Don't switch on the printer without print heads..Once printer treats no print heads in carriage, it will ask for health print heads for alignment., result you need to spend for full set of print heads.. be care full..

Magenta print head reseat.

i'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like your carriage assembly is bad. the slot that holds the magenta cartridge is defective.have the carriage assembly and trailing cables replaced. this should resolve your problem. these parts are becoming harder to find because of the age of the printer. carriage assembly part number is C6074-69388. trailing cable is C6074-60418 making the assumption this is a 36" plotter. also you can try cleaning the contacts on the carriage assembly. good luck!

Hp Deskjet 1050C Plus- Print head error

It is not unheard of to have a bad print head out of the box. I suggest you remove all the print heads and clean the ribbon connectors in the carriage that connect to the print heads. Clean the connectors on the print heads also.

If that does not clear up the problem, you may have a bad trailing cable (carries all the signals to and from the print heads) or a bad carriage.

Bad print head

HP C5010DN(Black) and C5011DN(color) are the part numbers. I am surprised staples does not carry them, but you should call around to local stores that sell printers. In Canada I use Future Shop or Best Buy.
