Sound is very low and all volume controls seems to be turned up

if its a laptop you will find a volume control on the side or front of the laptop, which works in conjunction with the on-screen controls.

I have missing volume icon in my system tray and not coming back from control panal.

Microsoft has made life hell for all of us for the past few years with this stupid issue, as due to an auto update from MS has made changes to the IRQ of sound card chip on the motherboard.

If you have a desktop then not much issues...but a laptop will need external speakers for the below solution mentioned ..

A simple solution that i have worked out....
use this 1$ USB adaptor (buy on Ebay) and connect your speakers to them....

No sound

Check if the speakers are working. If they are the next thing to check is the drivers for the sound card are installed.

I'm getting no power to my speakers when i turn on the power wheel on my speaker, the blue light doesn't come on...all drivers check out and device is "working properly"is this a sound card issue?...

I assume you use a set of PC speakers with own power connector.
If the power connector is plugged in properly and the power source is operating flawless, then either the power cable or the internal power supply are broken.
The soundcard has by 100% nothing to do with the voltage control of your speakers. All it sends is an audio signal (Unless you relay on USB speakers, in which case the power actually MAY come from the computer, but I excluded that since you said you're using a soundcard, and those don't provide USB output).

Summary: Cable or PowerSupply or Power source not operating properly. (Or the switch). Either way, you should not open any high voltage electrical components as that may lead to a deadly electrical shock. Please consider an electrician or buy new speakers, if switching the power source doesn't help.

Most likely drivers issue, Did you reload the sony drivers after downgrading the OS to XP. Thay system only came with vista drivers but you can try and reload them from original cd or goto Sony site to download. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFZ240E

How to install XP on pre loaded Vista in HP Laptop

I bought a cheap Compaq laptop that came with Vista Home Premium. The speed was horrendous! Anyway, I received the same no hard drive found error. To solve the problem, I went into the system config (BIOS) by pressing F10 on startup, and turned off SATA hard drive support (its supposed to make the hard drive run faster), I rebooted, inserted my Win XP Pro disc and viola, it detected the hard drive. I would say that the laptop runs a good 40% faster than before. Vista is a big no no when it comes to low end laptops built for word processing and internet browsing.
