Question about Irons

1 Answer

Kenwood iron Every time we buy an iron, after 2 years or less, when it has been used for more than half an hour, it trips the electricity. We have gone through about 5 irons like this. Each time, it costs far more than buying a new iron to have it repaired, so we throw out the old one, and get a slightly better one. Not very good for the environment. We now have a Kenwood, and the same thing has happened. It looks like there is dust in the soleplate, but I can't get the soleplate off to clean it. I managed to get the back cover off, by getting a special screwdriver from the hardware. Now there is something holding the front of the iron which I can't get off, to clean inside, and try to see what the problem is. Please can you shed some light on this, (explain the trick) or do all these irons only last for a short time, to fill up dumpsites? Do you think dust could be causing the shorting, or what could the problem be? Many thanks, Margaret

Yep! Cheap irons. This is par for the course with irons today. You might have a problem that could be fixed......however......

Unless you have a 5 or 6 hundred dollar iron, or unless it is brand new, and still under warranty, there is an excellent rule of thumb when an iron quits working: Buy a new one! These days, irons can be purchased cheaply enough that it is WELL worth the money. Not just for the convenience, but for the safety issues. This is an appliance that could burn your house down even if it's in PROPER working order. Hope this helps!!

Iron works for a little then electricity trips. why would this happen

You have a faulty and possibly a dangerous appliance. It could be a faulty/worn electrical cord. i suggest you get it checked out or throw it out and buy a new iron.

the problem of your iron could be from the element and the wire ,the element is the heat provider while the wire is the power supply from the electric

But the fact is that ,the problem of your iron is disconnection of element from the wire what you need to do fix it to unscrew your iron and trace the wire down to the element and see the disconnection am toking about and fix it back

Bought iron model no 14722 less than a year ago cannot find reciept for argos how do i get new iron or repaired

You could try the store but I don't think you will have any luck. I buy most of my electrical items from one local store, so if I have lost a rec eipt they can look it up on their system. I recommend a Phillips Steam Iron GC 4430 Don't buy an iron from a supermarket.

Steam iron trips the main fuse

It could be your iron drawing too much current but it sounds more likely that you have a weak circuit breaker on that circuit. You might try the iron on a different house circuit to confirm if its actually the iron or the house breaker giving you problems.

Clean sunbeam 4045 self cleaning iron

Make a solution of half water and half white vinegar. Fill up your iron and get is good and hot then let it sit a couple hours. flush out and repeat as necessary. Hope you find this helpful. Please give me a fixya rating If this works for you. It works very well as long as it is not completely filled with scale. Once you have it
good and clean By a gallon of bottled water at the market and use that for your Iron and you will never have a scale problem again. I learned how to do this 20 years ago from a 80 year old woman from england. If it is really bad you can up the vinegar concentration but do not go higher than 2 cup to 1.
