Question about Computer Processors

Uppgrade to a faster processor?

Hey!
I have a Prescot pentium 4 2,93 Gzh processor in my computer. My question is if I can uppgrade with any stronger P4 or if it must be a Prescot. I also wonder if there is any other kind of procesor I could use than P 4 and which one in that case would be the optimal. My computer has a 775 socket.
Packard Bell says that my motherboard also supports Intel Pentium D Dual Core Technology. What does it mean? Is it the same as Intel Core 2 duo?

Thanks for your help! I still wonder which processor could be optimal for my motherboard. Isn´t it a Pentium 4 3,8 ghz processor?

Hi
Pentuim D is a processor that has 2 x cpu in one and a core 2 duo has 2 cpu's plus 1 smart core bigger cache
you can only upgrade to a E2140 or E2180 processor on that motherboard
OR replace the board with a newer type

If you want to work the actual speed for the processor of a dual core take the speed for example dual core 1.8 x 2.1 =3.78 GHz
Core 2 Duo  1.8 x 2.4 = 4.32 GHz

    Good question

I took the liberty to drw up a spec sheet from intel for you that shows the E2180
This will be the best CPU that will fit into your PC have a look and let me know.

O and remember that you no longe look at the Pentuim 4 but now to cores and bus speeds to choose your motherboard, CPU, and memory

SOURCE: Uppgrade of processor!

looks like that mobo can only suppoport up to 53 mhz front side bus for a celeron d processor
wht tht means is tht u can get any cpu tht has the front side bus up to 533mhz with the 775 socket forur motherboard

and forpentium 4 its 800mhz and agian any cpu with up to 800 mhz front side bus and 775

so ur best cpu for tht mobo would be the SL7RR it supports hyperthreading

Uppgrade of processor!

Either there is a problem with the physical fitting of the processor, or the motherboard is not equipped to handle said processor, even with a bios revision.

Uppgrade of a processor

The processor upgrade defends on your motherboard if it supports a processor like Core2Duo, because it all depedns on the motherboard if you can upgrade processor and RAM ,if you buy a new processor and its not supported by your motherboard it will be a wast, but if your computer manufacturer told you that your motherboard can supports a processor like Core2Duo go ahead upgrade to it , that will definitely make teh computer faster and better sicne Core2Duo is a high end processor right now..

Hope that helps...........

P4 Pentium

The GA-8IE comes with the 845E chipset. The below link will provide a list of all the processors the board will support.

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=1320

It appears that the fastest it will support is the P4 Prescott, Northwood, or Extreme @ 3.4GHz (800MHz FSB).

Hope this is the information you were looking for.
