Question about Coby Televison & Video

My dvd player over the past couple of days has not performed well in playing dvd's. It would pause often, skip at times. Now it slowly goes from loading, then slowly to root/title and not proceeding any further. I played the same dvd's on another player in the house and it works just fine. So it is not the dvd. I did clean it several times while trying to get it to play.

I need more than telling me that my lens might be dirty.

I need to know how to clean it.

Do I have to take the top off to get to it? It is not too difficult to take out the screws.

  • myblueheaven Sep 24, 2008

My dvd player skips, pauses or will not get past title/root.

I am told that the lens might be bad. To me that is not enough.

I need to know how to access if to clean it or replace it as needed.

  • myblueheaven Sep 24, 2008

Hi

cleaning DVD Lens.. you need 100% cotton or cotton buds, then open your DVD then slightly touch the lens with cotton buds then cleaning the lens in motion counter clockwise and clockwise then you cotton is dirty... then test run the DVD. now if the problem is the same after you test run, you need to replace the Pick up Lens the part # is 1200 W . Please let me know if the test run is done.

Thanks!!!

Not only should you clean the leans but you should also check to see that the carriage on the tramble arm doesn't have fuzz and dirt on it. the carriage is what holds the lens and it travles on a track back and forth to read the disk.you have to take the top off and expose the tray or carousel that holds the disk. looking down on the tray you will see the lens.and a housing [plate for the tray. remove the tray cover and this will expose the track that the carriage moves on. take a Q-tip and clean the lens with isopropyl alchohol not too much though. as far as the tracking carriage remove any fuzz or dirt and if you want you can use a small dab of mineral oil, if this is not available use olive oil it's about the same. leave the unit top off and plug in and make sure the carriage travels right. then unplug and assemble the unit. insert a disk as see if the problem is solved, iff not the lens is bad and needs replacement. if the cost of repair exceeds the value of the unit your choice would be just to purchase a new one... good luck please rate this solution.........thanks.........Ron

Buy a cleaning kit like this, and follow the instructions on the box. dissasembly of your dvd player will not be required. You put this in like a dvd and follow the instructions on the box.
http://www.amazon.com/Memorex-CD-DVD-Player-Laser-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B00008EM7U

If this does not fix, honestly its most likely new time for a new dvd player but let me know if it doesnt work and we will see what we can do!

How old is the dvd player? Over time a dvd player can go bad. The laser eye slides back and forth on two posts. I use to fix cd players on jukeboxes by applying a small amount of special lubricant to get them working again. Also a small amount of kodak cleaner for the lens can clean it if it's dirty. This is not suggested on a dvd player because it's enclosed and is very easy to damage the eye.

I would have a competent technician do it. Though if that's the case it would cost just as much to replace a dvd player.

About taking it apart to get to the lens. There are tons of different types of dvd players and they all come apart a different way. If you are going to get to the lens, yes you will have to remove screws to get to it.

If you wan't to be able to find a technician to help tell you how to disassemble it you will have to give them the exact model of the player.

The next thing you will want to try is a DVD Lens Cleaner. You can pick it up at any electronics store for about 10 dollars. This will clean the lens itself this is a common occurrence. If you still need any assistance let me know. If you have a moment to accept and rate my solution it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee

Like I already mentioned you need a dvd lens cleaner to clean the lens. It is almost like a regular CD plays just like one and will have instructions on which track to play to clean the lens. You can pick one up at any wal mart, circuit city or best buy. If you still need assistance let me know. You can not replace the lens, and it is not economical to have it repaired. If you have a moment please accept and rate accordingly.
    Thanks,
    Lee

So you're saying that you use a DVD cleaner to clean the lens of your DVD player? if not yet try running a DVD cleaner to clean the lens of your player because the problem here can be a dirty lens of a bad lens already that may need replacement...

Hope that helps..........

It sounds like a lens problem. Have you try cleaning the lens of your DVD? More likely the lens should be replaced if cleaning doesn't fix it.

My Toshiba remote control se-r0077 sometimes works to control the DVD player and other times it doesn't. I've tried new batteries and the problem still persist s

One of the best ways to check if an infra-red remote controller is working properly is to look at it using a camera. (a webcam or phone camera will work) The camera will see the infra red radiation as visible light. If the LED lights up (on camera) consistently when buttons are pressed, then it may not be the remote at fault, but rather the receiver in the DVD player. Most of the time though, it IS the remote control at fault, and these are usually easy to get working again.

Couple of things to check are:

1) the battery terminals...
Batteries can leak and corrode the terminals in the battery compartments. Signs of this include rust, green coloured contacts, or a crystalline deposit. If you see any of this then clean the contacts using metal cleaner or some methylated spirit and cue-tips.

2) Broken wires connecting battery terminals to the circuit board...
The soldering in some remotes can be rather poor, and wires can sometimes come loose, especially if a remote has been dropped or bashed about a bit. Unscrew the remote and check everything is connected properly

3) Dirt under the buttons...
This can prevent a button from making contact with the circuit board properly. Unscrew the controller and separate the rubber button pads from the circuit board check for dirt both underneath the pads AND on the metal contacts on the circuit board. Clean as required with methylated spirit and cue-tips and then reassemble.

Hope that helps!

My factory DVD player will except disc the ejects it

If I understand your rather cryptic post correctly...

This very well could be a Blue-Ray disk loaded into a
non-Blue-Ray capable DVD player. Your car player's capabilities MUST match the disc, otherwise, the disc won't play.

I've run into this very same problem with my home DVD players. Which both are non-Blue-Ray capable, but I was able to verify the Blue-Ray discs on my PC.

DVD player wont eject dicks or play just say's disc error

You need to insert dicks into the DVD player, also, once it ejects the dicks, you should wait 20 minutes or so before attempting to eject more dicks.

Not enough volume forget about using it in the car---impossible. Can anything be done to improve

I assume you're listening without headphones since I think those would be loud enough. If you don't want to use headphones, purchase a speaker case to connect to the player. It will amplify the sound. We also use it to listen to shows on the computer. This is the one we have http://www.amazon.com/CD-Case-with-Built-in-Speakers/dp/B0009824MK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256616442&sr=8-2
