Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

Stuck on Zoom

Not sure how this came about, but all of the HD broadcast stations are zoomed on the TV when I try to press the format button on the remote it says that formating is not available for DTV. I'm confused. how in the world do I get it to fit the picture in the screen and not be zoomed?

That's a weird one, allot of mitsubishi tvs will lock the format for hd programing but normally its locked at "Full" not "zoom". Do you have a cable box or satellite box? If so you might want to contact them and see if you are able to zoom them in on the box...if you can that might be where your problem is. If you cannot zoom on the box then you have a weird problem, my first guess would be the signal board in the TV. Let me know about the box and then we can move forward.

Thanks

Black bar on the top and bottom during watching the tv

Hello

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

I just bought a new insignia LCD TV and the picture does not cover the entire screen. Instead of the 32 inch. diagnal I should, I have a 24 inch picture. Is there something I can do about it?

The "picture size" on the TV needs to be set correctly. You should have a "ZOOM" button on your remote. Press it a few times, cycling through the options... see if this fixes the problem.

Be advised, many (most) HD channels do not show HD content all the time. At the broadcasters discretion, they may choose to ADD the black bars to either side (and/or top an bottom) of the image. This is what the "ZOOM" button is actually for... to allow you to correct this, filling the screen with the image.

*Note: many cable box have a "FORMAT" or "HD ZOOM" button. When used in conjunction with the TVs zoom feature, you can end up having one device set correctly, while the other is not. The result is often a picture that is expanded far beyond the bounds of the displayable area of the screen. If you can not find a solution using the "ZOOM" button, pick the setting which shows the most image. Now adjust the cable box setting (FORMAT / HD ZOOM).

How to format my PHILIPS flat screen. I want the picture to be full screen

On the picture menu, you can select between 16:9, 4:3, zoom 1, zoom 2, etc. Depending on the station you are watching and whether or not it is an HD station, selecting zoom 1 or zoom 2 on your TV remote might give you full screen. Otherwise, on some DISH remotes there is a format or zoom button that will also change the size of the picture.

Lost my remote and tv is hung on zoom...anyway i can get off zoom without the remote?

Yes there is a way around zooming in and out without the television remote control. The cable box/satellite tv receiver also has an option to zoom in and out on it. BUT it usually only works when you have the hd box/receiver AND the television has to be on the right input in order to receive hd (component input or hdmi input). PLUS the cable box/satellite receiver should be set on the 1080i resolution (or 720p depending upon the resolution the television can accept). Then you can find the button on the remote that says #hd zoom (yes the # sign is on the button) or the button may be format or aspect.

How do I get the picture to fill the screen instead of having all that black space on the sides?

Using one of the older antennas on an hdtv when receiving broadcast channels can cause that.
It might just be the channel you are on. You should have a wide button or aspect, format, zoom or view mode on the television remote to adjust the picture size.

If you have a cable box or satellite tv receiver you can try the hd zoom #, aspect or format button on it to adjust the picture size.

You might be connected to your cable box two different ways and you may be on the wrong input

The program you are viewing may only be broadcast that way

The picture on my new 32" does fill the screen. What should I do to correct this problem?

I assume you have pressed the zoom button on the remote control that came with the tv. If you have a cable box or satellite tv box press the # button or hd zoom button or aspect button or format button on that remote control. If you are connecting a high definition cable box or satellite tv box to this television make sure that the high definition cables are connected to the right high definition inputs on the television and that the television is switched over to the right corresponding input. If all else fails and this is just happening on one hd channel it is the hd channel.

Aspect ratio problems on Samsung LN-S2651D Flat Panel TV

The aspect ratio (zoom) button on the cable remote had been changed. On Brighthouse the # button toggles through the zoom settings. It's not a tv issue, it's a cable fix.

You would look for a format button on your remote.
Dish Network: bottom left the asterisk "*" button
DirecTV: top left, second from the top labelled "format"
Cable remote: look for format, zoom, or aspect ratio

Pressing this button should scroll you through the options.
