I have a C640 that will not power up with the power supply ( it is good it works on my friends) but it will power up with a battery. Any ideas of what is the malfunction?

Hi Keith:

Was this problem ever solved? Just happened to me and I discovered that although the adaptere green light is on indicating an electric connection, the connection seems to be loose at the piece that is in the middle of the cord (due to my pulling it probably). I find fiddling with it turns the computer on. I hope this helps. I just wonder how difficult it is to disassemble and repair this. ?

Hi keith,
you have damaged the power slot on the laptop
sometimes it can be repaired by a service technician.
otherwise they may suggest you purchase a replacement motherboard

In a case like that it more cost effective to replace the motherboard or get a new system.

laptop motherboards are sometimes more expensive than a new laptop

C640 stopped powering up

If it will not power on from battery or AC adapter, Either the power switch is bad - OR the motherboard is shot - OR the LCD is not working. I would suggest taking it to a local PC shop and having it diagnosed, usually this costs about $30 I work for TechSupportPros of Spokane, WA and charge $30 to diagnose computers.

My daughters power supply for her C640 has a pinch

I suggest you DONT USE PINCH POWER CORD FOR SAFETY.

PLEASE TELL ME IS YOUR POWER CORD & THE PINCHED CORD ARE SAME? I MEAN SAME MODEL? AFTER PLUGING OF YOUR CORD, THE BATTERY CHARGING LIGHTS ITS ON? IF NO THEN I GUESS THAT CABLE NOT SUPPORT HER LAPTOP.
VISIT A DELL SERVICE CENTER OR A SHOWROOM AND BUY NEW CORD WHICH IS MADE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER LAPTOP MODEL.
OTHER WISE SOME CHANCES OF SHORTCIRCUIT ON MOTHERBOARD.

Thanks, i am waiting for your feed back & if you satisfied then thumps me please.

Dell c640 charging problems.

Instead of spending alot of time trying to do something that could potentially harm your laptop..why not just buy a power supply?

You can get one here Click here for about 16 dollars. That's a great deal they are usually about $60 and its a Dell brand not some off brand.

Good Luck

C640 power issue

To my surprise, dell provides dis-assembly instructions online: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latc640/sm_en/sysboard.htm#1000473

I have the same problem but didnt see a bad solder (resoldered all connectors with no success). I may have a bad AC power supply or bad charge circuit - no idea)

C640 Battery runs laptop - a/c doesn't

Three things that could cause this. 1- power supply, check it for the proper output with an ohm meter. The aftermarket power supplies, such as Tagus, don't work well with Dell machine and will also cause this, 2- bad battery or engaged fail safe, try starting with the supply only, 3- failed power management system on the motherboard. Other than an aftermarket supply, this is most commonly caused by the power management system or PM chip. Unfortunately, a failed power management system or chip is common with these, and the motherboard will have to be replaced in order to fix it.

No power

check your power supply and make sure the proper power at the ends and the light is on the power supply, I no those C640 s have a problem with the darn plug in and the pins in the laptop may have got bend or broken check that out and if all the pins are not bent. your power supply may be bad check that out, if so you can go to Dellsupport.com and order one for fairly cheap. I think that will fix your problem.

Dell C640 wireless not working

I used Everest home edition to find the wireless drivers for my DELL C640 laptop.   The wireless card in it is an  ntel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B MiniPCI Adapter (IBM). I've downloaded the wireless driver from Intel's website, here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=944&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional〈=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!#DRI
It's the 3rd result in that search page. If the link doesn't work, simply search for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection on Intel's site.
That Dell C640 wireless driver works fine for me, I'm using the wireless card to type this :)
good luck!
