I too have the same problem. When the power adapter is pluged in, the LCD lights up with the "HP Invent" logo, with a scrolling gray bar across the bottom. This stays on for about 15 seconds, and then, "reboots". This cycle continues over and over. HP is not much help. Their solution, "buy a new one from them". This one cost just shy of $400. I was hoping it would last more than 2 years.

I followed andrewwill's instructions (thanks for the pictures btw) and unhooked my wifi card. Now my printer is up and going. I too have a wired connection so I don't utilize the wifi capabilities. Thank you very much for the advice and great instructions.

This is what Maggix reported to solve the problem:
"I have found with this printer that the issue is a mis configured Wi-Fi card. Not sure how to fix it so you have wi-fi but if thats not an issue you can unplug the wi-fi card and it will boot and work again. To do this take the back panel off, there will be a bunch of ribbon connectors and plastic wire connectors. There will be one plastic connector set that has 5 or 6 wires and is wrapped in a black sheath. unplug this it is the wi-fi card. plug the machine back in and see if it boots right."

I tried and it works for me. The cable is located in the upper area of the small board on the back of the printer. It's a ribbon cable made of 5-6 coloured wires, all tied together with a black wrap.

Hope it helps

I have made a detailed blog with pictures describing this procedure after finding it myself. Here is the link:

I found the replacement wifi interface at http://www.everprint.com/online/simdetail.asp?partno=Q3395A. I have NOT yet ordered this, and therefore cannot comment on the company. In the meantime, the workaround provided by andrewwill at http://larrycrazyness.blogspot.com/2009/01/hp-fixed.html worked perfectly! We do not use the wifi at our house.

Try doing power flee(Uplug the power cable, press and hold power button for 5 sec and then plug in
the power cable and restart the printer) and then connect the printer in the wall socket directtly without the surge protector if it is connected.

The screen on my 7410 says HP invent with a moving bar on bottom and wont respond to anything. I have turnrd power of and it keeps coming up with same. Any idea?

When the software is installed for the printer, one of the applications that is added to the system is the HP Director. There are times when this application does not open on systems that are running the Windows XP operating system. One way to correct this is to run the program from the HP program group from the "All Programs" option on the Start menu. The application will load into the computer's memory but does not appear on the screen. Press "ALT" + space bar to view the shortcut menu. Select "minimize" to display the program on the taskbar. Another option is to update the program by visiting the HP Software Download Page (see Resources).

Hello.
I'm afraid this one is a critical issue. If your product is in warranty or out of warranty , it would be better to upgrade to a newer model as this is a serious flaw in the printer.

all the best.
