Compaq C502US Laptop Won't Boot LEDs flash

By v1nce on Sep 23, 2008

I have a Compaq Presario C502US laptop that will not boot. The minute I plug it into the a/c adapter the red charge led rapidly flashes (looks like some sort of blink pattern). When I hit the power switch the power light on the switch blinks on and off rapidly and then one of the volume led's flicker.

I checked the CMOS battery and it's fine and the a/c adapter is putting out the right voltage.

- With the battery (which has no charge now) plugged in, the led charging light flashes (same pattern) and the fan kicks in for a second and then cut's off and it still won't boot. Without the battery inserted nothing but the led flash pattern happens as already described. The laptop will not boot w/ or w/o the battery inserted and the a/c (brand new) adapter plugged in.

-   My Compaq C502us wont boot. The power light will flash and then stop. When I unplug the power from the computer and plug it back is it will try to start. The lightning icon in front is on now like it is charging. A few times I got it to start far enough that it told me I had a checksum error. I even got into the bios a few times tried to checkthe hard drive but than it stopped. Twice I got to the logon screen, but when I tried to logon it stopped. I reseated the ram, sometimes it would start with thw checksum error than, but the comp would inevitably stop again. Is the ram bad is the power connectoe to the Mother board bad. Is the motherboard bad? The hard drive was replaced recently and things were initially good, but soon degraded. -   cbhrasl

turn it off, pull the battery from the bottom, and try it again... chances are, the power adapter is not rated properly for the notebook, or the battery is dead and won't hold a charge anymore, in which case, recycle the battery.
