Question about Dacor DCM24 Convection/Microwave Oven

Dacor DCM24 - Security screw/tamper proof hex bit size?

My Dacor DCM Microwave/convection does not turn or heat altough the fan runs and panel seems to work. I was removing the screws on the back in order to lift off the top/sides but can't find a tamper proof bit that fits the Dacor tamper proof screws. Is there a part number and sorce to purchase the required part or should I just break them off? The unit is out od warranty.

I have exactly the same problem (fan runs, light goes on but turntable does not turn and no micro or convection power). I'll try your solution and let you know if it works.

I have the same problem with the fan and light working but no heat or turntable. My DCM24 is under warranty so I will post the issue and resolution once determined.

So I tried the door switches as suggested. I took 2 of them out (the bottom one and the middle one) and went to the parts store. They tested them and they are fine. So I bought one spare and used it to replace the top switch (which I hadn't bothered taking with me as it's the same part as the bottom one).

No change. I still have the light/fan running but no micro or convection power. Help!!! :-)

It's a a T20H Torx type or GTXH20-100, available from hardware stores, or places like Lowe's or Wal-Mart.

Some folks just break or bend the post in the middle, then insert a small flat head jeweler's screwdriver in the space between the post & outer edge of the hole. A sharp tap with a hammer will loosen them a bit.

Otherwise, you can use a hacksaw or Dremel tool to cut a groove in them, then use a flat head screwdriver to remove them.

Just be sure that any special grounding screws get put back where they were to ensure proper grounding of the case, an important protection from shock hazard in rare cases of internal wiring breakage.

The Dacor DCM24 is essentially a rebranded Sharp R930A and I have the full service manual here at my site.

As to what's wrong with it, I would say your secondary interlock (bottom door switch) has failed.

The service manual will cover it, but there's additional info here: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

I have the Dacor DCM24 microwave and if the table does not spin will the microwave still cook food. I think my turn motor is bad, but wanted to know if I could cook food without it?

Yes! it will continue to cook food, the only difference you may end up with cold spots in the food, rotate plate once or twice to reduce this.

I tried cooking with the convection function in my dacor DCM24 microwave. now the microwave function will not work. the fan comes on, but the turntable doesn't move and there is no heat.

This is almost certainly a bad secondary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount.

See my help file on door switches here.

You can download the service manual and parts list free from our site.

You can order parts by entering the Dacor part number here.

DCM 24S Dacor microwave. Clock, fan and timer work, but the turntable does not turn and food is NOT heated.

That would be a problem with the secondary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount.

My Dacor DCM24 microwave/convection oven is brand new and won't pop popcorn--old or new, large or small bag, with twice as much time as is on the bag, power on high. Doesn't work with the popcorn button...

Are you cooking it this way, as shown in the owner's manual?

"Use an overturned 9 or 10 inch oven proof glass pie plate on top of the
turntable when popping bagged microwave popcorn.
"

You can also use a paper plate in a pinch, but as always, never leave a microwave unattended while it's cooking, since some paper products can have impurities which will allow overheating and possibly fire.

This is a convection oven, so it has a metal turntable tray.

Microwaves cannot penetrate the metal from below like it would on a standard microwave's glass tray, allowing for even heating.

If you've lost your owner's manual, you can get it here.

WAS CONVECTION COOKING FRENCH FRIES IN MY DACOR DCM24 AND HALF WAY THROUGH I STOPPED IT TO TURN THE FRIES. WHEN I CLOSED THE DOOR AND PUSHED START AGAIN, THE OVEN JUST QUIT. NOTHING ON PANEL AND WON'T...

You have a blown convection thermal cutout.

"CONV. THERMAL CUT-OUT
The thermal cut-out located on the left side of the thermal
protection plate (left) is designed to prevent damage to the
heater unit if an over heated condition develops in the heating
unit due to convection fan failure, thermistor failure,
obstructed air ducts, dirty or blocked air intake, etc. Under
normal operation, the thermal cut-out remains closed. However,
when abnormally high temperatures are reached within
the heater unit, the thermal cut-out will open at 302˚F(150˚C)
causing the oven to shut down. When the thermal cut-out has
cooled, the thermal cut-out closes at 266˚F(130˚C)."
