First go into BIOS SETUP and make sure that your CD drive is set to be your first boot device, and your hard drive is the 2nd boot device. To do this, start tapping on the DEL key as soon as you turn your PC on. (On some machines it's the F1, F2, or F10 key). Once you get into Setup, use the arrow keys to check the boot device menu and change it if necessary. Then save your settings and exit.

Hopefully tou have the system restore CD that was provided with your PC. If you do, put it in the CD drive and restart your system. The system will boot from the CD and you can choose the option to completely restore your PC and format your hard drive. (Of course, all data on the hard drive will be lost)

If you do not have the system restore CD you will have to insert your Windows CD instead. You will be given the option to format your hard drive. Format it and Windows will then be loaded onto your hard drive.

Once you are up and running again you will have to go to the MIcrosoft website http://www.microsoft.com/updates and download all high priority updates.

Having corrupt files errors, tried chkdsk it states read mode only

When you run CHKDSK/F from windows, a reboot is required to scan and fix the errors as it must run in DOS or it can't work properly.
Try again or better still, format with the system file and copy CHKDSK from your windows to a USB storage device or CD and run it from there. If the device or CD is formatted as a bootable device, the notebook should boot from it in DOS and run correctly.
Hope this helps

When compuetr starts no boot device available but BIOS seen

If there is no HDD or any other boot device the BIOS will always be present. This problem occurs if you haven't installed any Operating System on the HDD. So when the computer is booting it finds no booting device files and that's why showing error message. Format your HDD and install OS to boot smoothly. But if you have HDD with OS still this error happening then it might be a reason of corrupt system files which are required during booting or it may be the case that your HDD is damaged and cannot boot from there. If your HDD is damaged and still showing on the BIOS it may happen because it is detecting as a device but the as the device is damaged is cannot boot from it. Check these steps to solve your issue.

CD drive refuses to open or run even when I press the button

Select a cd rom device, then add another boot up disc, then see if it opens. Will it take a cd rom better than a floppy? If so use the boot up disc, rather than an older and possibley more damaging floppy.

EMachine T2778 new hard drive, restore disk aren't working, how do I format?

1st Option: Go to BIOS level and select the CD/DVD device is the first device for boot option and then insert the recovery CD/DVD to format or install OS.
2nd Option: If recovery CD/DVD got curropted and you are having the other OS CD/DVD, then try to load and format or install the OS. Also try to download the recovery image from vendor website.

Revert back for more assistance.

Can't reboot windows cd on with cd drives

If you have it available, boot to the Dell DImension Resource CD and run the diagnostics on the hard drive. From the description of you problem, you may have a failing hard drive.

Other things to check:

1. Ensure the system BIOS (F2 at boot) sees the hard drive and has the correct date and time. If the motherboard battery is failing, the time and date will not be retained when system is powered off.

2. If you are able to format the hard drive, but the windows XP installation process gives you file copy errors, then you may have a bad RAM module. If the system has 2 or more modules, take out all but 1, retry the install. If you get file copy errors again, try a different module.

3. If the Hard drive passes dieagnostics, but fails to complete a format, replace the hard drive.
