I bought a wiring harness for my honda to hook up my stereo deck and but it wont turn on, are the color codes different or just match the color to color??

If you mean you bought a wiring harness adapter for your car so you could hook up an aftermarket deck - yes it's just color for color then.

Trying to hook up last few wires and not sure what they are

Hello jtracer,

Here's a link to the Kenwood manual at Crutchfield.

Here's a link to the color code for the 2000 Dodge Durango.

If you are splicing directly into the vehicle wiring, just match up the wires from your Kenwood to the appropriate vehicle wire by function, not color. If you are using an aftermarket vehicle specific wiring harness, such as the Metra 70-1817, the colors should match up with the Kenwood wires.

Hope this helps.

I am trying to connect a kenwood KDC-MP3035 to a 1997 Honda Passport but none of the wires match up, what do i do to make it work?

Hello oz101ez,

The wires have to be matched by function, not by color. Here is a link to the color code for the stock radio harness in your Passport. Connect whatever color wire your Kenwood manual says is for 12V + (usually yellow for most aftermarket receivers) to the "red/white" in your Passport. Connect the Kenwood accessory wire (usually red) to the brown/white wire in your passport. Just continue matching up each wire function and colors on both ends.

Best would be an aftermarket wiring harness vehicle specific for the Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo. The Metra 70-7712 seems to be the correct one for your vehicle. Installer.com probably has the largest selection of wiring harnesses available anywhere. They'll even match the vehicle harness to an aftermarket receiver harness and connect them using solder and heat-shrink insulation if you desire.

Most local car audio shops will carry some wiring harnesses. Also retailers like Best Buy may have them, albeit at much inflated prices. Online car audio retailers like www.crutchfield.com and www.soncielectronix.com have a good selection and their prices will probably be somewhere in between, lower than local but higher than Installer.com

Hope this helps.

2004 civic, aftermarket deck installed... no am/fm reception

Is your rear window tinted? If so the metal in the tint is causing your reception problem.

The wires for the stereo are cut

Yes this is not to bad to deal with.. make sure you use quality wire connectors so you don't have problems later with bad connections. you pretty much just have to match the colors from the harness in the car to the ones on your deck. If you don't want to cut off the harness connector on your deck just purchase one that you can connect to your deck and cut the wire ends on the other side of the adapter. The only wires you wont be able to match color for color is speaker wires... for these you will just have to hook them up temp. and test to see that they are connected to the proper speaker output. close.gif Read more >> Options >> answers-logo.gif

Swapped out players and new one doesnt power up

Ok. recheck your harness. WIth some brands yes the harness will plug into the radio from a different manufacturer but recheck the wire colors. They usually change pins out. For example whats power on a particular pin may be a speaker wire on another brand unit with the same style plug... so get the harness that came with this radio. Check the pin location and wire color on that pin to the other harness. I almost guarantee that there is a difference. Hopefully you didnt damage your new cd player... let me know how it goes...
