Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have a digital Sony Mavica FD-95, when I insert a floppy disk into the drive, it reads as "disk protected" when the disk is not protected. Also, when I insert the adapter for the memory stick [64 meg] it reads "disk error" [flashing: C:13:01]. [Disk Protect] In both instances, I double confirmed that the media was NOT write/copy protected & I have replaced the batteries in the MSAC-FD2M memory stick/floppy adapter. Can this be fixed? The issue is probably that the storage media you are attempting to use exceeds the equipment's capacity. This is very old technology, and is surely due for replacement.

SOURCE: Disk Protect

Try to use a can of air and blow out the inside where the disk goes. The sensor may be dirty.

I can not locate where the memory stick is located on my Digital Mavica MVC-FD85. pleaase let me know

I'm sorry to inform you that the MVCFD85 Camera does not have a Memory Stick slot. The medium using in the Mavica FD camera is floppy disc.
The MSAC-FD2M floppy disk adapter can be used in some FD Mavica digital cameras.
With the help of the above mentioned Floppy disc adapter, you can insert a memory stick inside the adapter and insert it in to the floppy disk drive on the camera.

When a floppy disc is inserted it flashes disk

The floppy driver has an internal switch that detects when the floppy disk is protected or not.

It is likely such switch is damaged.

It is necessary to open the camera and the floppy drive to fix it.

If you have experience and skills in fixing electronic devices, or want to try it, then you can try its repair.

The alternative is to pay to have repaired, but is more likely that the quote you will receive is to replace the whole floppy drive, which costs around $40.00 plus the repair labor.

How to shut off disk protect

The write protection is on the floppy diskette itself. Make sure the little sliding latch is covering the hole on the right side of the diskette. If you see through two holes on the diskette it is on write protect.

Storage/memory used SD or usb flash disk

Try setting your picture size to a smaller size. If your pictures are used mostly for being viewed on a computer, or for smaller print sizes like 3x5 or 4x6, you should not lose any quality. The smaller file size does not take as long to write to the disk.

Sony mavica mvc-fd91 digital camera

The first thing to check is the floppy disk itself is not protected, what this means is on the left/right corner of the floppy disk is a little tab that can be moved up or down. Check to make sure the disk is not locked (usually symbolized by a lock symbol on the disk). If that does not work, you might have a bad floppy drive

I have a Mavica FD81, and I do not believe you can use the memory stick adapter with it. This camera came out long before the adapter was available. The manual only mentions floppy disks.
