Their are basically 3 issues that can be the cause of this situation.

The most common one and simplest is your speakers got turned down or in your settigns options under sounds they got muted.

The 2nd thing is you may need to search on the net for "yourlaptop brand""sound drivers". or go to the manufacture website.

The 3rd thing is an actual physical issue with your computers hardware. Such as bad speakers.

you can see volume icon on top of keybord.press FN key and that volume icon key to increase volume.
you can also control volume in start menu->control panel->sound and audio .

No sound from my acer aspire 3690, was working fine , now the volume buttons do not indicate they are even acknowledging me pressing them ( no green volume indicator when i press )

Please go through the following link and download all the drivers of audio then you will be able tro hear the sound again. In product family select notebook and then aspire then aspire 3690 and then the necessary driver:

hi .

have a look in control panel sounds and audio devices see if sound is on .

also have a look in -my computer - view system information- hardware - indevice manager have a look for any yellow ? marks if any click on them to update them .
