Windows Mobile 6.1 Issues

I recently upgraded my Tilt to Windows Mobile 6.1. My biggest reason for doing this was the threaded sms messaging, seeing as I was close to buying a third party app before I was aware that the upgrade included this. (I text quite a bit). Here we are, 2 days later, and I'm already starting to wonder if this was a mistake. I'm having two issues with my TIlt which did not surface until after the update. The biggest and most annoying problem is that my texting is terribly slow, that is to say, the text that I have typed has a bit of a lag compared to how fast I'm actually hitting the buttons. This was not an issue pre-update and it's driving me up the wall. As a side note, I had the space where I input my text seemingly shrink, so I could only see the upper half of the words I was typing, with the lower half covered up by the menu bar at the bottom. This went away after a soft reset, but Im afraid it might resurface. If it does, combined with the already terribly frustrating typing lag, I'm not sure what I'll do. My other problem post-update is that I can't seem to set a song as a ringtone. It only works with one song. Other than that I can only change it to the other various polyphonic choices that come with it. When I set a song as the ringtone it transfers the song to the ringtones file on my tilt, and it confirms that it has set it to my current ringtone, but in fact nothing has changed. Quite frustrating, I've spent countless hours tinkering with my tilt getting it just right, only to have my ringtones and texting thrown off. The only programs I have on the thing are three games that I got from AT&Ts media mall, the vistahide battery guage, a black dialer skin, and a black theme for the htc home plug in (I uninstalled the htc home plug in once I realized the 6.1 update set up the today screen to look identical). All of these I had on the phone before the upgrade, saving them on the memory card before the upgrade and installing them again afterwards. After writing this novel of a plea for help, I hope someone out there can give me a suggestion because I'm quite a fan of this phone (as well as not having to spend a fortune on another if I can help it).

I went to the suggested location in file explorer, and there were a LOT of items in there, but unfortunately I don't know what can and can't be deleted. I don't want to guess at it and end up damaging my phone. Any suggestions?

Under the "StartUp" folder there are 4 items: AutoShortcut, PKG, poutlook, Voice Command.

To be honest, I think it would be way too time consuming to fix each individual problem that I'm having after upgrading to 6.1, especially since I don't know what I'm doing. At this point, if I could just downgrade back to 6.0 I would be content, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Countless hours of googling it has yielded no real results.

Wat is the msg center number? plzz help

The SMS Message Center Number is a phone number that acts as a gateway for transferring SMS messages between cellular devices. The number should be automatically set by the carrier.

To know where are these numbers stored, here is the way to locate it: Launch the SMS application. Access the Menu Launcher. From the Options pulldown menu, select Preferences. The SMS Message Center and SMS E-mail Center number should appear. If you do not see any numbers, it means your mobile service provider does not allow you to change these numbers.
Usually, you don't have to touch these numbers. If you suspect they are incorrect, contact your mobile service provider and ask them to send an Over The Air (OTA) message with the correct information in it.
Each carriers has different SMS Message Number.
Here are some of the provider's SMS Message Number : AT&T: +19078319301 Cingular: +12099042010 (West Coast) +17045020600 (East Coast) T-Mobile: +12063130004 Rogers Wireless (Canada): +17057969300 Fido (Microcell - Canada): +15149931123

Inital text of a thread

Firstly I have to say WOW, your fingers must be tired, it is a good job this phone has a keyboard.
If you go to Android Market on your phone and search for and download an application named "ChompSMS".
This is an SMS application which can be used alongside or instead of the defaut SMS application on the phone.
Once it is installed, open it up and you will see that it shows all your message threads in a slightly different interface (looks a lot like iPhones sms UI)
You will have to scroll to the top of your massive SMS thread once but when you delete a message it will stay in the same position rather than go back to the latest message. This should make deleting a lot of the earlier messages in the thread easier.
Once you are done you can remove the application. This will not effect the messages in any way since the application is just a front end for the SMS' on your telephone.

My friends tilt has conversation txting and mine does not.

If you're talking about getting SMS text messages to display in a "threaded" view, you will probably have to burn a custom ROM onto the phone. I don't know of any carrier who's ROM displays text-based convos in such a way.

Every custom ROM I've tried on my Tilts has done this. You might want to consider a custom ROM.

How to save text message? and how assining tone to incoming sms?

you can transfer your text messages to your PC by installing a software on your PC called Jeyo Mobile Companion. download this software, install it and then connect your phone with the PC. once synchronized, you will be able to transfer all your text messages to your PC as a "Notepad" document! i hope this works for yah.. for your other question, go to start then settings, then "sounds and notifications", then go to the "notifications" tab, then in the "event" pull down menu select "messaging:new text message" and then check the "play sound" check box and then select any sound you would like. simple isn't it? ;)

Pls help!

Pocket PC OSes cannot be upgraded to "mainstream" Windows XP or Vista as they are completely different hardware architectures (just like you can't run Windows Mobile on your home PC). In some cases you can upgrade your pocket pc to a more recent version of windows mobile (the OS on the PocketPC). To see if there is an upgrade in Windows Mobile 6.0 (the latest as of this writing), check with acer.
