I was able to get a subsidy code by calling AT&T customer service, telling them that I had purchased a used phone that I wanted to use on their network, and needed a subsidy code.  (All true, BTW.)  They gave me the code that unlocked the phone for free.  
You might want to call your carrier and see if they'll do the same.

The phone needs to be unlock.....you cna take the phone to a mobile service center and ahve them unlock it for you or can try online at unlockitnow.com or mobile2mobile.net.

you must call your network customer service for that... or you can also visit your local network service stores and ask for a subsidy code it wont take you 5 minutes for that... :)
