You can visually inspect a capacitor. If you see any bulging or leaking then it's bad. Some capacitors will not show physical signs so you would need a capacitor tester in that case.

Tv popped and went off, there are 2 circuit boards how can I tell which is bad, power board or audio video board,, no lights on tv work at all, complete zip

If you Heard a popping sound. Most likely it was a capacitor that went bad. Yahoo search capacitor to see a picture.
Usually capacitors swell when they go bad. if you Don't know How to spot it. Concentrate on the circuit board you plug connects to and check to spot the capacitor. You might not actually have a standard capacitor. So look for a film capacitor as well.

Good luck

Comp fan only runs when given a spin otherwise wont start is it the capacitor Not familiar with this unit and customer has no manual

Possible, but the only way to tell is to get a new capacitor. You would need the capacitor anyway if the motor is bad as you don't use an old capacitor on a new motor.

Motor doesn't start

You will need a meter that reads capacitance or microferads.

the capacitor will have it's rating and range printed on the side.

For instance, if you have a 35 microferad capacitor, and it has a + or - 10% range, the capacitance reading would need to be between 31.5 and 38.5.

If the capacitor is leaking or swollen, then it is obviosly bad.

Make sure you disconnect the power first, then discharge the capacitor, (using a screw driver touch both terminals together.) and remove the wires from the terminals before testing with the meter or you will get false readings.

How to tell if capacitors are bad

If the capacitors are bad, they will be domed or pushed out instead of flat on the top.

TV with grey screen turns self off

This is an issue with the power supply. The capacitors used are faulty and you likely have to get a new board(about $400.00) or fix it yourself. LG's are quite east to disassemble.

You will be able to tell it is the power supply board due to the cable running from the plug to the board. It will look similar to this38376af.jpg

Next locate the bad capacitor, likely green and about the size of a quarter. You will be able to tell the bad capacitor by the bulge on the top.

At this point you can buy the new capacitor at a local t.v. repair shop for just a couple bucks or likely take the board to them and they should be able to fix it for 10-20 bucks. Unless you are decent with soldering I suggest taking the board in and having them replace the bad capacitor.
You will need a 2200µF 10V capacitor. I may suggest bumping to 2200µF 13-16V capacitor just so you don't have the same problem again.

Once the bad capacitor is replaced, replace the board and turn on the t.v. You should be good to go.

Ruud heat pump capacitor size

A hard start or turbo 2000 will not work if the run capacitor is bad. You will need to contact a ruud supply house or dealer with model and serial to find out the exact match. I have checked my sources and came up empty handed. You could try getting a 35/5 MFD at 440V or a 45/5 MFD at 440V as these are the most common capacitors used in Rheem and Ruud equipment. The key is that you will need to check your amp draws on both motors against the nameplate rating to make sure that you are not over-amping the motor. Also check the nameplates on both of the motors. Most condenser fan motors and some compressors list the capacitor size they require in a somewhat less than conspicious location on the label.

Timer light flashing

The capacitors wont always show any outward signs of being bad. But it the LED blinks constantly without stopping thats telling you the DM isnt completeing the boot sequence. So most likely the capacitors are bad. But dont put the same ratings back. go with 1000ufs @25V but make certain they are the 105 degree celcius capacitors. If you need further assistance let me know
