Question about Samsung CLX 3160fn All-In-One Printer

Every application crashes

After installing the drivers & the applications from the included CDs, whenever I try to print from anything, I get an application error & it must close. Doesn't matter what program, Wordpad, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, test page , etc...

Same exact thing on my wife's PC, both running Windows XPP, virus & Spyware free...

Anyone know why, or a fix for this ?

I have a 3160 and when I try to print from it, Windows Explorer encounters an error and the whole computer locks up. Exact same problem on two computers in the house.

  • I've tried the drivers from the disk as well as the drivers from Samsung's website and Windows Update driver.
  • I've tried to connect this printer directly through a USB cable as well as through the wireless network.
  • I can successfully get this to install to XP and Vista laptops, but the two tower PC's (different manufacturers) are the ones I can't get it to install on.
  • I've tried installing with anti-virus and firewalls turned on as well as turned off
  • I've tried installing with Windows XP SP2 and with Windows XP SP3
  • I've tried setting a working laptop up to share the printer, but the towers can't see the printer share.
I'm at a loss. Please help

Error 49.4c02 comes up whenever i want to do duplex printing

This is a critical firmware error that occur which cause the processor on the formatter to abort operation.This type of error can be because of invalid print commands,corrupt data,or invalid operations. Sometimes electrical noise in the cable can corrupt data during transmission to the printer. Other causes include poor quality parallel cables or poor connections,
To solve this try this solution step by step
  • Turn the printer off and then back on.
  • Try printing a job from a different software application. If the job prints, go back to
  • the first application and try printing a different file. If the message appears only with a certain software application or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.
  • f the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or PC.
  • Turn the printer off.
  • Remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM in slot J1.)
  • Remove all EIO devices from the printer.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM and EIO device one at a time, making sure to turn the printer off and back on as you install each
  • device.
  • Replace a DIMM or EIO device if you determine that it causes the error.
  • Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer.
  • If the error persists, final option is replace the firmware

A Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printing language, PCL 6 is optimized for printing from graphical user interfaces (GUIs) like Microsoft Windows.

The Enhanced PCL XL, or PCL 6, driver that is included with the HP LaserJet printers provides enhanced WYSIWYG and enhanced performance with application support over the Standard (PCL5e) driver. PCL XL is a new page description language by HP, that is part of PCL 6 and is closer to GDI, which many applications use. Less translation takes place by the driver, which means increased WYSIWYG capabilities, and better performance with applications that support escapes implemented by the Enhanced driver.

While printing using the PCL 6 driver it is possible to encounter a PCL XL error. This error will print out at the LaserJet device, and will look like something similar to the following:
PCL XL error

Subsystem: KERNEL
Error: IllegalOperatorSequence
Operator: EndSession
Position: 15

These type of errors can be PCL interpreter errors, firmware related, tied to communication, driver, driver dependency, and application specific. Additional troubleshooting will be required to further isolate to root cause.


Troubleshooting:


I. Verify printer functionality

To verify printer functionality, perform the following:
1.Power the printer Off.
2.Disconnect the parallel, USB, or network cable.
3.Power the printer On.
4.Once the printer display reports Ready, verify device functionality by printing a Configuration Page from the device.
Note: should the internal printer test not print as expected, and/or a PCL XL error occur, you have then isolated the issue to the printer device, and any network connectivity or driver / application troubleshooting can be ruled out.


II. Verify communication w/ the device

To verify communication with the device, perform the following:
1.Power the printer Off
2.Reconnect any communication device cable previously removed
3.Power the printer On
4.Once the printer display reports Ready, perform the following:
a.From the client machine or print server that had previously encountered the PCL XL error open the Printers and Faxes folder.
b.Right click the PCL 6 driver in question and select Properties.
c.From the General Tab select Print Test Page
d.Verify the driver test page successfully printed
Should the test page successfully print, continue with the next troubleshooting section entitled Isolate user, application and/or file.
Should the PCL XL error manifest itself as a result of the driver test page, perform the following:

1.At the print server, or client machine, open the Printers and Faxes folder

2.Click on Add Printer

3.Go through the Window’s driver install process installing the appropriate PCL 6 driver for the device in question, with the following characteristics: printing directly to the device (IP_Address, USB, Parallel, etc), creating a new print queue, selecting to Replace Existing Driver.
4.If the issue persists see section entitled: Microsoft Unidrv driver dependencies.
Note: If using an HP LaserJet PCL 6 device specific driver (discrete), try installing the latest HP Universal Print Driver PCL 6. Available at the hp.com website under support & drivers. Select product cb534a and also select your operating system, download a universal print driver Post Script would be the best selection.

You can also adjust a few settings under printing preferences:
under the advanced tab:
Raster compression:
Set it to max



III. Isolate user, application and/or file


If in fact the printers internal test pages and driver test page have printed successfully, further fault isolation must be performed to correlate the PCL XL error with a specific user, application, and or file. This information is most often easily gathered by speaking with the customer, investigating which user is printing when the PCL XL error manifests itself. Once the user is identified, the application the client was printing from can be isolated, and quite possibly the application file itself.

If an application file consistently causes a PCL XL error when sent to the device, it could be a problem only with the file.

IV. Microsoft Unidrv driver dependencies


The issue was identified to be related to Microsoft unicore files: unidrv.dll, unires.dll, and unidrvui.dll, that were not compatible with the available PCL 6 drivers at that time. Microsoft has developed a hotfix to address the symptomatic PCL XL errors – the Microsoft Hotfix can be reviewed here:

My printer prints very small laters

>this could be application specific or the printer driver is incompatible with the application. you can check by printing other application or documents.
>you can also install generic driver, go to printer and faxes folder add a printer, add a local printer and select usb port, select hp as manufacturer and select deskjet 990c as your print driver
>you can also try to go to www.hp.com select support and drivers and then download the latest driver for this printer and install it

Hp solution center not working properly


You will need to reinstall the driver application. You can download the latest version from HP Support at the following link

Make sure that you chose and install the correct version for your operating system otherwise you will get application crashing issues such as those you describe.

If this persists then it would be a very good idea to uninstall the HP drivers and application then to run a Registry clean using the Ashampoo toll (free of charge for 30 days from www.ashampoo.de) to make sure that all instances of the driver and application have been removed so as not to cause any contention between drivers and applications. Then reboot the PC and reinstall the application from scratch.

Printer is not recognized by some programs for some reason.


generally say the printer driver install no problem, but why some application can not seen as a selectable printer device? you may try
1) same application might not be compatible 100% to Vista, when you open a PDF file and click print you can not see your printer device model on first print screen.
2) try to change printer driver or utility and application installation sequence.
3) you may try install fox reader for Vista, see what happen to print
