Question about Canon imageCLASS D760 All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Won't copy document through feeder.

I have a Canon D760 Laser printer/copier. When I tried to copy through the feeder or inside with the cover close, it won't copy. But I can manually copy a document as long as the lid is up. What could be wrong? Use the machine mostly as a copier. thanks

When you say it won't copy, do you mean that the paper won't move in the feeder or that no copies come out? Do you get any error messages? Try using alcohol on a swab or lint free cloth and clean the feed rollers in the feeder. They sometimes get paper dust on them and they can't pick up the paper. Also make sure that any paper sensors that detect when paper is in the feeder are intact. Occasionally they get stuck or broken. Hope this works.

Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the machine.

  • The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when the received fax or unsent fax are stored in the machine's memory. Make sure if the machine completed sending or receiving all the faxes before disconnecting the power cord.

Where is the platen located

The platen is the part that covers the large original glass. That is why this glass is sometimes called the "platen glass". More commonly the glass is called the original glass because that is where you lay the original to be copied if you are not using the feeder.

Black smudge mark down 2 inches of right side of copy?

Do you see the same smudge mark if you lay the original on the platen rather than using the document feeder? If it only shows when using the document feeder, clean the scanning glass for the document feeder. It's the small glass to the left of the main glass with the cover open. Use a damp cloth and clean off any dirt or white-out.

Canon D760

You have one off possibly 2 problems.

1. The toner cartridge is defective. Try another and see if the problem goes away.

2. The fuser roller is defective. It has a teflon coating and after a while it either gets encrusted with toner and transfers ghost images or the image doesn't fuse properly.

I would try the first alternative. Let me know if it works for you.

Cannon Printer

The ADF is the Automatic Document feeder through which you feed the paper in on top of the printer. Usually the cover swivle/opens up, and you can check if there is paper debris in the rollers. Clean the rollers with cotton pad and some alcohol.

Check Document

Look at the sensor arms on the feeder cover...open feeder, and take it off from the sides..there are little wings that pop out of socket, and look at the black toggle arms... one most likely is dislodged...make sure they all toggle freely...ckeck the one towards the bottom first...if you have to , take screws out and pull cover apart to re-insert toggle arms....
