I have 3 drills, (2)14.4 and (1)18 volt Dewalt. the 14.4 drills starT to smell of burning and then smoke. One of the 14.4 drills seems to be less powerful. The 18 volt hammer drill is stuck in forward...

Well burning and smoke is either a switch or motor. Disconnect the motor and run it with battery voltage and no switch. If it's still slow and smokes it's the motor if not it's the switch. The other one sounds more like the switch but could be the motor. Testing would be the same as the other. On the 18 volt open it up and see if the reversing lever got hung up. It may be that you can line it back up and be ok. More likely it's a bad switch and needs to be replaced.
All these tools have static sensitive switches and need to be worked on at a static free work station.
Hope that helped..

My 18 volt dewalt cordless runs well except when I try to remove something with it. Reversing the drill makes my nutdriver bit fall out as it opens the chuck, so all removals have to be done by hand.

I would make sure that the bit is firmly installed in the chuck, you should hear clicking when the bit is tightening, this is the chuck locking itself on the but. and when going in reverse make sure you dont have your hand or have the chuck pressed against an object. If nether of these are the problem then there may be a problem with the chuck itself and should be replaced.

Why has my dewalt 18 volt drill gone slow and less powerful? the batteries are fine on other tools

It sounds like the motor is going bad. You could also try to take it apart and clean and relubricate the gears and shafts whith grease.

Dewalt de9092 - the reverse not engages regularly

sounds like the switch is bad and needs replaced, You can go to Dewaltservicenet.com and type in your model number to find a replacement switch, If you do it yourself make sure to write the wiring down first, the switch might be polarity sensitive.

The motor turns but the clutch will not engage

Take the drill out of the hammer drill setting when in reverse.  Using the drill setting with the speed on 1 will give the power to free the bit.  If the clutch will not engage, GENTLY but firmly switch between forward and reverse.  This should work just fine.   I hope this solution brings you success!  Best Regards,  Michael Mittelsdorf
