Whirlpool can get you into a range with your serial number, from there they need features and color.

Replacement lid

Dear Carlie,
Type "Sears Parts Direct" into your search engine, and then provide the make, and model number of your washer, and you should find a lid available.
Sears sells parts for most all of them.
If you wanted more selection, after you get the part number, try Amazon or e-bay for more selection of parts.
God bless your efforts.

set the timer on spin, open the lid and with a screw driver push down on the lid switch, sounds like the lid switch is broke,if it doesn't spin when you push down on the switch then push down and up down and up with the screw driver or open and close the lid,you should hear a clicking sound,no click bad lid switch.send the model number,it's on the back wall where you put the clothes in right under the lid when the lid is open, follow the lid to the bottom and look right under it and you'll see a number that will start with 110.send it and i can tell you what switch goes in that machine.

With my old washer I was able to open the lid and it continued agitating. My new one does not allow me to open the lid while it is agitating. Is there a locking mechanism?

Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a "Lid Switch" as a safety device.

On older models the switch would stop the spin cycle when the lid is raised.

Newer models stop both the Agitate and Spin cycles.

If this is a Sears washer see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The agitator won't work, and the button under the lid fell off. What can we do to fix it, or would it cost too much to fix it?

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? ..........

Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines.........

The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub.

The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers.

Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem.

IF THIS IS A BASIC KENMORE / SEARS TOP LOAD, DIRECT DRIVE WASHER THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY A LID SWITCH. (EASY AND INEXPENSIVE TO FIX)

I'D NEED TO KNOW THE BRAND AND MODEL NUMBER TO BETTER SUGGEST A SOLUTION.

Lid switch doesn't work

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

On most top loads, you can usually find the model number by lifting the lid and looking at the top of the tub. The model number may also be on the label with the serial number, part number etc.

If you find the model number, also go to the Sears site that has on line (PDF version) manuals.

The Kenmore / Whirlpool top load uses a reversing motor to initiate the pump for draining and the transmission to spin.

If you cannot hear the motor trying to turn the pump, (but the washer will agitate) the problem points to the Timer, or the Lid Switch.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

Following is a description of how to release the console for access to the pins.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

Also see the following for a more detailed description of how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/2550f737b3129b0c85256b0600504738/$FILE/787772%20%234.pdf

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

How to replace the lid switch for a top load kenmore washing machine model 110.92480200 part#1170635?

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.92480200

Look at the top and cabinet section and you should see how the switch mounts.

A concern that I have is that the part number on the Sears site for your washer is

Switch, lid Number:3352630Substitution:285671which isn't the part number that you quote.

Just had the same problem 1 month ago. My Whirlpool Duet front load made that terrible noise. 2 of the 3 spider arms were cracked. I hade a new hole tub with the spider arm and the shaft , because it is 10 years limited waranty . But if it is not under waranty it costs about 270$ for that tub you can buy it from many appliance parts web sites on the net. Good luck, huge job to all remove that thing

Spin Cycle on Wash Machine does not work

The problem is your lid switch. This is a common problem with this model washer, and a very simple & inexpensive problem to fix. Click on the following link for advice on how to replace:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

You can find a replacment switch at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Cabinet Parts" heading on the next page. I believe thats the heading the part is listed under. Sears has excellent part locator drawings to assist you in identifying the part. Once you have the part number identified, you can do some comparative shopping at other online websites too. Use the part number that Sears provides, however. A new switch usually runs about $25 to $35. In addition, make sure you check the lid strike. This is a small plastic piece on the lid that is used to activate the lid switch through a small slot. If the lid strike is broken off, it will give the same symptoms of a defective lid switch. I hope this information helps you. Please post back if you have any questions.
