Chamberlain door opener--Door opens but light will not come on

I have a Chamberlain Heavy Duty Garage door opener. Recently we lost power to our home for a couple of days. The door functioned perfectly until after the power came back. The door opens and closes well. The problem is that the light will not turn on. I've manually tried turning the light on and can hear a click when I press the light button. I've changed both light bulbs with new ones. I was looking for a reset button, but could not find one. The motion detector appears to function, too, but the light still does not come on. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Did you ever find out how to fix this, I am having the exact same problem.

    Thanks Door Tech.
found out that the real problem was not the contacts or logic board but incompatible bulbs. My wife wants to use those curly CFC bulbs everwhere we can...didn't work in the door opener for whatever reason...we replaced them with traditional bulbs and we have no problems with the opener now (bet Tommy Edison is smilin' from up above)...thanks for your time and hope this can help someone else down the road

If you are getting a click the relay on the board sounds like it is working. Sometimes the contacts in the light socket gets burn spots on them. Try unplugging the unit, unscrewing the bulb and with a small scrapping tool (small flat screwdriver) scrap the bottom contact and the contact on the threads. Bend the contact on the threads a little too make better contact with the bulb. Screw the bulb the bulb in completely.  If this does not solve your problem the only the left to do is to replace the logic board.

I too Changed from CFC to regular bulbs...the lights work fine now!!

My contacts needed to be pulled out. I'd think that changing bulbs would help since the shaft on traditional bulbs is longer and wouldn't mater if the contacts were pressed to the bottom of the socket but since they quit making them your going to have to get your self a needle nose pliers and pull them out a little. I like the energy savings and the old ones didn't his up from the slight vibration... I didn't cut the power cuz I didn't want to reprogram the remotes but if you touch the contacts together with power there you might fry something including your self thanks for the tip door tech

There is an inherent design flaw in the sockets with some of the openers. The Whisper Drives have this problem. The bulb does not make a good contact with the bottom tab. Sometimes, you can bend that tab up to a 45 degree angle and then try reinserting the bulb. If you notice excessive pitting on this contact, then it needs to be replaced. Be sure to disconnect all power before doing any work on your opener. Verify power has been disconnected with a meter or test lead before beginning your work. Use caution with CFL's. They can be wider at the part nearest the male portion and rub on the housing of the opener. This will cause the bulb to torque away from the housing and hence, loosing your connection with the tab at the side of the female socket. This will also cause for a lose of connection. Good Luck.

Hi. My garage door opener is having a problem closing. It goes about 1/2 way down then reverses to the open position. Its a chamberlain 1/2 hp heavy duty. Any suggestions?

Hi swilson.... on the motor you will find adjustment screws. One to adjust the up setting and one the down. Also one for the pressure setting. Usually when the door is behaving as yours is the pressure setting needs to be tightened a bit so that it does not reverse direction with the tiniest bit of resistence. Make small adjustments so that you do not end up with a door that is a safety hazard in that it will not reverse when it hits an obstacle. Joe

Hello we have a Chamberlin 2265R 1/2 HP gargare door opener. There are two issues. 1) recently when we press the remote to open the garage door the door will travel a short distance then stop press it...

I have recently had the same problem. I found one of the brackets on the garage door was broken. The broken piece which was hanging may have been interfeering with the traveling of the door. It was a diamond shapped bracket labeled N1. the door opens and closes, plus putting stress on the dootr. works fine now, i am in the process as we speak to find a replacement bracket. It was driving me crazy. The door would open fine, but when closing it would stop then go back up, the light would flash. Check all yhe brackets on the garage door itself.

Try to install a heavy duty vibration proof bulb. Most hardware stores sock these. Your door might vibrate too much and cause premature bulb failure.

Garage door opener light bulbs burning out

You can replace the socket itself. Unless there is extreme vibration this will be your best bet. If there is vibration then use some rubber washers to lessen this. You can get replacement parts at chamberlain.com. Thanks BB

My light bulbs keep burning out prematurely on my garage door opener.

I tried a REVEAL(brand) 40 WATT DOUBLE LIFE CEILING FAN LIGHT BULB , and almost two months later it still works. It is sold at Home Depot in Illinois. The filament is much thicker than any of the other heavy-duty bulbs I have tried, and that seems to be the difference. The REVEAL bulb is the only one I have tried that has lasted this long.
