Question about Leica Digilux 2 Digital Camera

Open Question

Crazy warped view on LCD & viewfinder -- won't go away

My Digilux 2 recently just started to flicker on the LCD/viewfinder. It turns on fine, the Leica logo appears, and the picture remains normal for about 5-15 seconds. Prior, all I would have to do is take a picture, and it would clear up, no issues. Now, it flickers, then turns into a weird doppler-radar kind of thing, and the once normal view appears to almost "melt" down the screen, thereby becoming un-viewable. Just a mess of magenta lines, blobs, and flickering.
Any idea on what would cause this? I haven't dropped it, got it wet, etc. It does it with a full battery or a half-charged battery. Any help would be great.

Same problem. It seems a bunch of Digilux 2 have it. Somewhere I read it's a sensor problem, and that Leica fixes it for free, no matter the warranty

Thanks for the response! I actually sent my camera in a month ago and they promised to fix it for free...although it's a 4 month turn-around time. Still, better than buying a new camera!

Does the menu in the camera work?
You may need to activate some Postview function in the menu. If the camera takes pictures, you should be able to view them in playback mode. There could also be a Preview mode, which requires pressing OK before storing pictures. Preview/Postview should cancel each other though...

SOURCE: best make and largest size of sd card for the leica digilux 2

The Digilux 2 will work with any SD card, but bear in mind that SD cards max out at 2GB. Larger cards are actually SDHC cards and will not work in the Digilux 2.

Open the back of the camera. **** the camera as if you were advancing the film. While looking in the back, push the shutter release, like you were taking a photo.
You see the mirror flip up and glimpse a flash of light as the camera cycles.
If you do not see the mirror flip up and return, the camera needs serious repair..
As for the LED Display, put some new batteries in it.

I have a Leica Digilux, but could not fine it anywhere on tghe dealer spots. I need a memory card for it and its difficult to get locally. The size is larger than the regular cameras.

Amazon could be a help:
http://www.amazon.com/MEMORY-Leica-DIGILUX-Digital-Camera/dp/B000Y06WXA

It may depend on what your exact camera model is. You have only stated Leica Digilux.
There is the Leica Digilux 1, Leica Digilux 2, Leica Digilux 3, Leica Digilux 4, and the Leica Digilux 5. Most seem to take the SD HC (the SD card may work as well) card:

If your camera is a Leica Digilux 1, then the cards it can take are: Secure Digital Card and Multi Media Card
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leica_Digilux_1

If you have an earlier camera, then it could take some other kind such as the Compact Flash Card, although I did not find such a note anywhere.

I'll give your the diagrams to select the live view feature but for sports, it's not going to work unless you want blurry action shots. Also you can shoot in the basic zones you need to be in the creative zones to have the LCD even come on in Live View.

Here are the diagrams
Live 1

Live 2

Live 3

Have some fun with it but I think you will return to that "tiny viewfinder" there is a reason why the pro's use the viewfinder

When I turn on my Leica digilux-2, the monitor shows a photo from the SD card, but does not pick up anything else. The viewfinder is black.

Odd this has been here five months w/o a response. Apparently you describe a "burned out CCD", the famous "sensor problem", which is frequently mentioned whenever the Digilux 2 is being discussed. It's too bad because I think otherwise it is a wonderful camera. Contact Leica in whatever country you live and see what the current policy is re: repair, and whether the company will stand behind their product. There appears to have been positive response. Good luck.

Why wont the image come up on my LCD on the D40 when i turn on the camera

Because it's not supposed to. The LCD on the D40 is for menus, shooting info, and image review. It takes pictures the same way SLRs have done for half a century, allowing you to view and frame through the viewfinder. Only more recent dSLRs (and not all of them) have the Live View feature allowing you to use the LCD instead of the viewfinder.

When turning pwer on the the shootingsettings

You get to the viewfinder by putting an eye to it. The Rebel XT works as SLRs have worked for half a century, showing you the image through the viewfinder. Only more recent dSLRs have a Live View capability, allowing you to use them as point&shoot cameras by viewing the image on an LCD.

The D40 works the same way SLRs have worked for the past half century. Only recently have dSLRs acquired a "Live-View" capability, where you see the image on the LCD monitor instead of through the viewfinder.

I realize this probably wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way it is.

LCD SCREEN

LCD = Lousy Camera Device? Get used to using the optical viewfinder. The LCD is great for reviewing images after you've taken them, but it leaves a lot to be desired as a viewfinder. Keeping your camera steady is no small feat at the best of times, but being forced to hold the camera away from your body to view an image through the LCD adds a new level of instability to the picture-taking process.
